Luc Bernard is back, and he's brought friends photo

Luc Bernard is awesome. Sure, we gave his game a review so scathing it sparked a war between the creator and our entire community, but I think every industry needs a Luc. Now he's back, putting his departure from games creation firmly in the past to reveal a WiiWare/iPhone company currently being set up by himself and a friend.

Older and (maybe a little) wiser, the self-proclaimed Leader of Pugs has not revealed the name of his new venture, but he has confirmed that several games are being worked on. The first title is an unnamed turn-based strategy, which is being worked on in conjuction with a former Electronic Arts programmer. It is said to be somewhat like Advance Wars, but with some sort of "environmental" difference.

The second game in the works is a "Metroidvania"-style game called Rose Princess. Luc describes this one as being like "Looney Tunes on crack." To me, that conjures up an image of a haggard Daffy Duck, heating up a spoon and shivering before weeping among a huddled pile of feathers and sick, but that's probably not how the game plays.

The titles are planned to hit the iPhone, WiiWare and Steam. Luc has confirmed to me that he actually has a design document now, something he believes will help these future titles.

Good luck to him. I think he has a lot of creative potential, and hopefully Eternity's Child has been a positive learning experience for him in regards to both game design and public relations.

I've yet to actually play one of his games. If the man can put something out on a platform I own (read: WiiWare) I'll be able to form a real opinion on his work.

Without that, I'll just have to settle for him being a cautionary tale about the heat of the internet and not adding QA to your production plan.

I played some of the Eternity's Child demo from Steam, and, I have to say it, it's not bad. In fact, I kind of liked it.

@ Sho Nuff: Haha. The difference was Castle Crashers was still fantastic despite its issues, while Eternity's Child was unplayable at a fundamental level. Tom Fulp and Dan Paladin also handled their criticisms with much better tact than Luc Bernard did. I guess it's hard to tell the difference between the two situations when you're an obvious troll. Haha.

Drug Use 101: Crack users simply put the drug into a pipe and smoke it...no spoon is needed or would ever really be used. Heroin is what needs to be put into water and "cooked" which is often done in a spoon. Seriously, you don't have to be a drug user to know this but simply watch any number of movies or TV shows involving drug use.

I don't know about you people, but I'm gonna give the man the benefit of the doubt. So long as he doesn't start misbehaving, and so long as we don't try and provoke him to do so, we'll be fine. Who knows? Maybe he'll come out with a good game.

I'm betting the Advance Wars-style game is probably the EC prequel he mentioned in one of his blog posts. It looked different, to say the least, and another Advance Wars game can't hurt anyone.
