Loved The Grudge? The game is coming soon photo

If survival horror is my gaming bread and butter, then Japanese horror films are the film equivalent -- I love everything about them from the trademark black hair hanging in people's faces to the ubiquitous curses. As you may imagine, I was a big fan of The Grudge, or Ju-On as it was called in its original Japanese release (and no, I don't mean the US adaption starring Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yuck).

Playing a game based on The Grudge is the kind of thing that I have wet dreams about in the middle of the night, but apparently someone thought it was a good idea other than me. So it's happening. Based on the original 1999 film and being worked on by Takashi Shimizu, the film's director, the game's working title is Feel and it is being developed by N.C. for the Wii.

According to GoNintendo, there will be new victims in the game, you can play either one or two player, and the game is sixty percent complete. I don't think a game like this has much hope in being brought here, so I'm going to have to import this one. It's currently slated for a release this summer. Saying DO WANT would be a severe understatement.

That's kind of odd. The original movie is great though. I can't wait to use waggle to cover my windows with newspaper!

It's crazy how people are happy about a game adaption, but always get agry about film adaptions.

I don't see how this can work without going very far away from the original.

Well - it's no Fatal Frame, but saying it's going to be bad outright would be me judging books by covers.

I'm not sure how I feel about it really. The Grudge (US) was awful, and after seeing the original Japanese version Ju-on I can say without a doubt that overall it's just a horrible series of movies. I just can't imagine getting into a game about it. I don't find Japanese girls and little boys scary just because they put a ton of white paint on them and tell us they're ghosts. I also found that "Urghhhhhhh" noise the girl ghost makes through out the movies more annoying than scary. These are horror movies for the weak who can't take real scary horror movies.

I don't know. Looks OK. Kind of a weird juxtaposition of elements; jhorror game adaptation, Wii... I mean, if anything, that's what makes the whole idea interesting.

Didn't every single victim in the movies die? Does that mean you just play as characters who die, ala Eternal Darkness? Not sure if want.

This won't work, because we are smart. When we hear a scary boy making cat sounds etc, we are not going to open that door. We'll just turn off the console :P

Well, I don't own a Wii, but even if I would probably never buy a game based on the original Ju-On.

Why?

Because that movie scared the shit out of me...!

I'm not kidding. I don't get spooked easily, and I have probably watched thousands of horror movies over the course of my life...

But that movie was the shit. Really, really, really unnerving. Those little Japanese guys are the shit, I'm telling you. They know what they're doing.

Then again, it depends who you talk to I guess. I mean, my wife watched Ju-On and didn't get spooked. Not in the least. On the contrary, she got extremely bored.

But then again, my wife thought (and still thinks) the "The Omen 4" is the scariest movie ever made.

So, who can say...

Dear god Ju-On is my most scary film ever. Freaked me right the shit out, and left me unable to walk around my own house in the dark. You know, just in case that freaky kid was hiding somewhere.

I lost my DVD and thought I was safe from that little shit, but bam! There he is lurking on Destructoid. Now I know that nowhere is safe.

Thanks guys.

Did someone mention my name?

I love horror games, but seems I have reservations about this.

When the girl without the jaw turned around, I can safely say I got 30 minutes of sleep that night.
