Lost Planet 2 details come to the surface, sound sexy photo

Like a fair few Destructoid readers, I never warmed up to the original Lost Planet. However, the more I hear about Lost Planet 2, the more hopeful I become. A new set of details have emerged concerning the Capcom sequel, and so far, it's sounding hot.

First of all, LP2 is definitely taking the Resident Evil 5 route and making co-op the order of the day. Up to four players will team up to tackle an army of glowing bugs, with heavy emphasis on working together and taking responsibility for your allies.

"Besides having you mind your own T-ENG reserves when the fighting gets rough, Capcom also plans to incorporate something called a 'Team Military Power Bar," explains OXM. "If you happen to die during a mission, you'll be able to immediately respawn at a data post - but your team's overall Military Power Bar will take a hit."

The part that really excites me about Lost Planet 2 is the customization factor. Rather than being poured into a pre-existing character mold, players will customize the look of their own unique Snow Pirate, from the armor to the weapons, and even a taunt. There will also be finishing moves that are described as being "a little like the chainsaws in Gears of War."

OXM also describes a rather cool boss fight against a three-story tall monster, as one player takes the creature on in a vehicle while another uses a handheld missile launcher. As this goes on, a third player has grapple-hooked onto the monster's back and is riding it "like a giant, living surfboard."

It sounds like Capcom is really pulling out the stops to make Lost Planet 2 incredibly superior to the previous game. As someone who didn't enjoy the first one, it's crazy that I'm looking forward to the sequel as much as I am.

Meh.
Looks to generic for my taste, probably will buy it at budget price.

Anything that teases customization options gets my attention. I really didn't like the original's demo so I never picked up the actual game, but this does look loads more interesting...

This sounds awesome.

@Bulkmailer:
The original had it's share of problems, but it was just flat out fun. It wasn't perfect by any means. But if you like huge explosions, fighting giant monsters, and mechs, it's worth it at the current cheap price.

It's pretty fun online too. I still pop it in now and then.

I never played more than the Demo for the original Lost Planet but I might have to go back and buy it now because Co-op in the sequel has piqued my interest.

I loved the original. The bosses were interesting, they had the whole "starship troopers" feel to them. And the online play was great. Here's hoping the grappling hook becomes more useable during firefights, ala bionic commando. But all in all I'm happy with Capcom for this,as long as they dont charge extra just to play multiplayer.

Awesome this once again proves Capcom's superiority in the gaming world. By the way, please play Lost Planet 1 for all those who have missed it. The story is crap, but the game play and especially the boss fights are amazing. Then again Capcom does produce some of the coolest boss fights of all time.

I have to disagree again, I for one thoroughly enjoyed the first one in fact i will go so far as to say it was my favourite game until gears 2 came along, the multiplayer was'nt just the usual running around shooting each other it mixed things up a bit and the levels were awesome plus it was old school gaming at its finest! so there Jim stop saying it sucked.

No, adultswim. Not Gears of War. Lost Planet. Just because a game shares some similarities with a previous game does not make them the same game.

I, for one, am looking forward to hearing more about LP2.

I loved the original game, and hope this doesn't end up relying on some retarded AI if you don't play it with people...

The demo for the first game was very average.
The full game however, awesome.

3rd person shooting + Grappling hook + Mechassault style mechs.
And giant bosses, you gotta have giant bosses :D

this game wil be lethal, i played the first alot an it felt like assassins creed.... i mean they both are good games, the first in new ips so are very rough around the edges. what i took away from both was that although i didnt think the first attempts where really that great(fun but flawed) i was more excited about the sequels!! all the bones are there for a awesome game now they just need to flesh them out.
but i fucking hated the last Boss...like every capcom boss(im lookin at you Seth you asshole) was a ball ache.

@RonBurgandy, remember the planet they are on they are trying to colonize and make habitable, maybe in LP2 at some point the start melting some of the ice and trees start growing??? Or even cooler would be if the Araknid launch a counter attack against earth! "Shoot a nuke down a bug hole, you got a lot of dead bugs."
