Quantcast

Some of this Lost Odyssey Xbox 360 footage you've seen, but most of it you haven't. Maybe. I don't know. I'm just making up sh*t now. Either way, if you haven't seen this stuff, it's about time you did. Start with the video above, then watch two more after the jump. More RPGs for the 360 make Summa a happy boy.

If this game wasn't coming on a next-gen system, would anybody really care?

If you take away the decent graphics, it still looks like a pretty standard RPG. Some elements even look archaeic. Come on, random battles? I thought we got over those.

Games like this and Virtua Fighter 5 make me hate next-gen sometimes. It's the same old shit with just a fresh coat of paint. I'd rather have the innovation of games like Assassin's Creed on a next-gen system, thanks.

This is just footage of the Japanese demo. I hate that MS forced Sakaguchi to show the game off in such an early stage of development. Apparently the battle system isn't even halfway finished (according to an interview with Famitsu). I love the art direction, though, and the story sounds very interesting.

Omg... i had never seen any video for this game before and as soon as that battle started i was drooling but that all ended when i saw that it was turn-based...

Don't get me wrong, turn-based games are fun and there are plenty of extremely good franchises to back that up (Final Fantasy). But the only problem I find with these games is that they are way too slow and during your turn you can go to the bathroom, eat lunch and shop at the mall before picking up the controller and attacking again. Plus it would be much easier to push a combination of buttons to do a spell rather than scroll through a menu into submenus to click on a spell. I may be wrong about this since I haven't played a turn-based title since FFXI, which was horrible, but seeing the main character just sit there and scroll through targets during the video makes it seem like you can make your turn last for hours if you wanted to.

the song at the end of the third video sounded a lot like a final fantasy 7 song eh?

WOW this looks like an ACTUAL RPG and not just another generic "level up-shooter" that claims to be an RPG that are so common these days.
I tip my hat to you 360.

Looks rough around the edges...how far along is it?

I hope they'll be able to remove this "now loading" screen, otherwise the pace of the game will be very slow lol :). Nice videos though. I'm looking more to this game than BD. But again, the chance to see this game in North America before 2008 is 0 :).

Man, I hope combat is more interesting than that. Now that even Final Fantasy has dropped random battles and turn-based combat, I think it's time people realized that those mechanics were designed to compensate for lack of technology. Turn-based combat in a tactics game, like FFT/FFTA, Fire Emblem, Arc the Lad, so on - that's interesting. Even turn-based strategy games are fun. Turn-based RPGs that yank you out of the action over and over again? It took three seconds for me to start fast forwarding through the combat on this one. Seriously, 'i hit you, you hit me' is getting a bit old, even if it does involve hitting multiple guys.
