Lord of the Rings: War of the North trademarked photo

Rest easy, nerds: Lord of the Rings: Aragorn’s Quest isn’t the last LOTR title. The trademark crawler over at SuperAnnuation spotted a new registration by the Saul Zaentz Company (the people who trademarked Warner Bros. Aragorn’s Quest) for the unannounced The Lord of the Rings: War of the North. Sounds serious.

We won’t be coy: we know absolutely nothing about this title. If LOTR game tradition holds, chances are this will be another boring brawler featuring Orcs, an overpowered Legolas and Gimli as mere comic relief. Then again, as suggested by Joystiq, this could be another one of those silly “family friendly” titles.

So, what’s in the North? This map has all sorts of funny locations, but our eyes were drawn to The Lonely Mountain -- home of the Durin and the largest stockpile of treasure in all of Middle-Earth. Treasure is worth fighting a war over.

My wife and I are already stoked. While Aragorn's Quest probably won't even be a rental, I'm glad that another LOTR game might rise out of the ashes of the franchises' recent fare.

The Lonely Mountain was where Smaug lived, right? It's been eons since I read The Hobbit.

If its the "War in the North" it would cover the War of the Gondor sister nation Arnor and their struggle against the Witch-King, a few hundred years before Lord of the Rings. Then again, I am sure this may not be the case.

The lord of the rings was based in the south. But it reflected little of the north, but in past ages it was a different story. In the first age the migration took place, a lot of inhabitants settled in the north. The time of Morgoth, Charcharoth, dragons, the battles of angmar, took place in the north. A lot of fate deciding battles was fought. The hobbit is based in the lower north and upper north. Like the siege of lake town, goblin town, the first description of eagles in the story. The wars in the north have come unheard and I hope that this game will clear some of the hazy spots for gamers.
