Lord of the Rings: Conquest multiplayer demo available for 360 and PS3 photo
     Lord of the Rings

I have to admit that Pandemic's Lord of the Rings: Conquest is one of those games that is completely and totally off my radar. So when I found out last weekend that a demo for the game was available on PlayStation Network, I was really surprised. Why didn't I know about this? Isn't it my job to know this crap?

Well, now that same demo is available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, and I'm totally in the loop, thanks to Mr. Professor Major Sergeant Larry Hyrb Nelson. The demo is available in all regions and is "free" provided you have an Xbox LIVE Gold account. So I guess that means, technically, it's not totally free. But you get the idea.

Lord of the Rings: Conquest takes the Tolkien mythos and dumps it into a Battlefront-like world of team-on-team multiplayer combat. The pictures of the game are pretty, but may not tell the whole story, so I'm interested in getting my hands dirty with the demo.

Let us know if you want to play, and we'll try to get a few Dtoid staff members on board for a quick game this afternoon. We'll take any excuse to stop writing about games so we can play them. Hit us up in the comments so we can figure it out.

THIS GAME SUCKS! I downloaded it for the PS3 and it is just terrible. Although I did find humour in how completely awful it was. So maybe it is worth playing the demo.

It was available on a weird day like Tuesday or Wednesday along with some other stuff. Anyway, it sucks. I don't know how they could screw it up but they did. The graphics are near PS2 levels. The mechanics beyond a level of poor. The rogue class stealths and can instant kill anyone in one hit. I think for a hero it takes two hits or something.

No real tactics of any kind that I noticed. Pretty much pushing each other back and forth and who ever sucks the most loses.

I think we're going to try to get an XBLA game going at 3pm EST. If you're interesting, drop your gamertag here and we'll see what we can do about sending you an invite (you can't create private games, but we can attempt to grab an empty server).

Woah, demo is 1.25 gigs! That's unusually large for a demo.

Ohh. Don't get your hopes up too high! The single player demo was laughable. Literally, the Voice Over will have you cracking up.

This game is as generic as it gets people. Be warned.

@perri:

Yeah, I tried out the single-player tutorial level and it was ... interesting.

To those who passed along their gamertags, I'll add you on XBL closer to 3pm EST. So far, Dtoid Staff on board is Jim Sterling, Brad Nicholson, and myself. As you can tell, we're having a busy day ...

Not really.

Such a disapointement , I downloaded the demo , and the multiplayer is broken as hell , the warriors only use their spin special (because the special bar fills up way too quickly) , the mages use their flames (or explosion if the person gets close) , and by these cheap tactics the rogue and archers get useless ...

Nick, I actually got to play this game at PAX. The version at PAX was VERY buggy, but promising, especially if you are a LOTR fan.

I would be up for some LOTR fun, but not till this evening.

@BigPopaGamer:

Night would probably be better for most, but since a few people are off from work/school today and we are astoundingly bored around "the office," afternoon gameplay it is. (Also, I personally won't be able to play tonight.)

Friday Night Fights can dig into this one, I suppose. It's something to do, I suppose.

I dled this on Christmas day from PSN, it is a lot like battlefront. It seems like it could be even better than the RotK game. I do wish that we could have played as a troll in the demo though...

@Druid 01:

A group of us played earlier, and I don't think anyone enjoyed themselves. I thought the experience felt kind of sloppy across the board (controls, visuals, gameplay balance). That and because it was a demo, we couldn't create our own room and kept getting booted from the EA servers. :(

Just deleted it, It's shit.

Poor balancing, really bad maps. I noticed that in the castle map (Minas Tirith I think) there were invisible walls, o'look a stair case I'll just go up there and........what??. Come on I'm in a map surrounded by walla and a can't jump on wall, ledges or go up stairs. And the other map (the shire or farm A) is just as bad, there's a river.... its a foot deep brook no chanellege for a knight.....shit you die.

I'm going to give it a miss, wait battlefront III :)

Huh, I actually found the demo quite fun and had I been on dtoid earlier I would have played with you.
The controls do feel kind of sloppy at times, but (except for the scout maybe) I found it pretty well balanced.
Anyway: I liked it.

This game sucks so bad the scout class completely breaks the game with there one hit kill stealth attack on the other hand was fun being the two special classes(gandalf and the witch king) for the 5 games i played even if they didnt seem any different to the rest.

@iconsam
I heard that Rebellion(the ones who made the PSP Battlefront) picked it up, so one can only hope that they make it like classic Battlefront.
