Look out for Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram on XBLA next week photo

Sega's bringing Virtual On: Oratorio Tangram to Xbox LIVE Arcade, in case you weren't aware, and it's sounding pretty damn good. The port, which will be up on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Wednesday, April 29 for 1200 Microsoft Points, is going to have improved (HD) visuals.

Beyond that, VOOT for XBLA has one other major selling point, namely online multiplayer. It's going to be interesting to see how the port plays on an Xbox 360 controller, but I'm leaning towards feeling cautiously optimistic for now. At the very least, we could always force ourselves to adapt, I guess.

TWIN STICKS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN

...seriously though, sega really needs to at least bring out a peripheral for this game, it looks like it would give my hand cramps trying to use the analog.

YEEEEEEESSSSSS.

I don't want to play it with the 360 controller, but I will if I have to

i dont see the big deal of using dual analog sticks. some gamers think they're too hardcore.

Wait, what is the problem with using the analog sticks? I'm missing something here, please explain.

Man, I wish this was 800 points. I don't know if I'm THAT into it for $15, when I have the Dreamcast version that I haven't even looked at in years.

This makes me want to get a 360...but probably won't. Time to fire up the ol' Dreamcast.

Well, its not so much a hardcore purity thing, for me anyway.

In the arcades, the sticks were setup right next to each other, and the controls played up that fact. Strafe right was both sticks directly right, jump was both sticks directly opposite of each other. If nothing else, the arcade setup felt really bad ass!

On 360, you're just off alignment. I honestly don't know how its actually going to feel, but right off the bat, its a different control experience. With such fond memories of the original and its not-broken controls, I think its unfortunate that it'll be changed from that.

But watcha gonna do, eh?

Is using the sticks better than a controller pad?

Do want this next week.

But man, is XBLA going to make a broke man or what...

This is awesome, the 360 controller will work great! Triggers for weapons, bumpers for turbo, sticks still work like the sticks. Far better than trying to make it work with a Dreamcast controller.

These would be great:

Notice the button layout, which you I guess will mimic well enough to Shoulder triggers and L3/R3.

Control schemes for VOOT in order from theoretical perfect to don't bother:

Fresh set of original arcade sticks (ah that new plastic smell)
Official made-for-home sticks
Well worn set of original arcade sticks
HomeBrew DIY sticks with arcade layout
Playstation Dual Shock analog
XBLA dual analog
Wii Classic Controller
Dreamcast dual analog (No triggers on the sticks at all)
Two Wii Remotes
Virtual Boy Controller
iPhone
Computer keyboard
Classic NES D-Pad
Atari Joystick
Trackball
Tiny trackball
Keyboard and mouse
Touch pad
Etch-a-Sketch nobs
Miracle Keyboard
V/O headset

Seriously, I'm not as hardcore about this as it seems.

I really wish this was coming to PSN for the analog stick placements but if it's only on live then I guess I'll have to adapt.

Fucking great to see it arrive though. I still bust out my Saturn twin sticks from time to time!

i would just hold off on this game as im backlogged, but than again the sales might influence more DC games to PSN/xbla. JetGrind, Daytona, Space ChanneL5, Saturn games Virtua Fighter2, SEga Rally and such.
