London Studio: EyePet just the start, thinking franchise photo

According to lead developer Nic Doucet, SCE London Studio isn’t thinking one and done in regards to EyePet. The studio believes and intends to make the augmented reality pet game a weird franchise for an audience that refuses to get a real cat.

“For us, it’s the beginning,” lead developer Doucet told VG247 in a recent phone conversation. “We’re creating a franchise. We’re hoping to really rally a lot of support and have a big success.”

“The intention is to build something bigger than a single game.”

Wait we will to see what EyePet indeed deserves a couple spin-off games and whatever else comes with a franchise. Earlier this month SCE confirmed that the North American version of the title wouldn’t make it out of London Studio in time for a holiday release. It’s now set to hit in the 2010 window, with further, hopefully more specific details coming “very soon.”

You know, I've bought some seriously ridiculous games over the years. Stuff that most people would think is completely stupid.. and even I can't get excited about EyePet.

You know, I can't help but feel like there's some sort of subliminal messaging going on in the comment section lately. On an unrelated note, I should pick up some domain names next time I'm at the store.

I cannot wait for Eyepet! Only £20 too (if you've already got the Eye).

My buddy's kids are climbing the walls for it, they're fucking excited. I'm almost ashamed that I'm about as excited as them.

How can this not be full of win.

Oh, yeah, buy domain names too!

This will be great for my kds I could imagine lots of good Times but instead of thinking about the future they should worry about getting the game out as scheduled in the first place

My God, those are the creepiest things I've ever seen. They'll haunt my nightmares tonight.

Those things are scary as hell. I would not want one of those on my TV screen, much less multiple times in a series of freakin creepy games.

It sounds cool, I guess, but then you see that image and see the thing in action.

It just looks so...soulless. There's no life in those eyes in that image. I'd much rather get a cat, because then I can watch it do amusing things and have an actual pet that'll do more than my fish.

Passing this up when I get my PS3, myself.

@ Frylock

The resemblance really is uncanny. Despite that, I am looking forward to this. I've got a nephew who's about two and he'll probably go crazy for it.

Like Max had a baby with a Wild Thing.

I think he's cute, however you can totally imagine him creating evil spawn like Gremlins. That would be a pretty sweet spin-off actually.
