Lollipop Chainsaw is really pushing the alternate costume thing. We already got to see the various new looks Juliet Starling can rock with North American pre-orders, but here's a look at the stuff Japanese premium edition can buyers can get their pervy hands on.
The standard edition will have its own skins as well -- chiefly a stereotypical high school outfit and bunny suit.
The premium edition will feature a different exclusive costume depending on what system version is bought. PS3 users will get a sulty waitress outfit, while Xbox 360 buyers get the ridiculous "sexy rider" suit seen in the header. I mean, that's more or less pornography.
No word yet on whether we western devils will get these particular skins.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Not only do they skimp on the costumes, they skimp on, well, skimp.
Those are pretty tame, save for the bunny costume. Ban that sick filth!
Bayonetta has no DLC. All the alternate costumes can just be unlocked by playing the game.
Bayonetta is GOTY.
Games like this degrade women, and make the rest of us look like immature teenagers.
@Ben Sheers
The Japanese alt costumes are degrading, yes. But the overseas version is a lot less tacky.
Only reason this is on my list is Suda51.
If such depictions of females were not there, it would likely only have the effect of making people who play with video games seem like pre-pubescent children who think that girls are yucky. Tone it down and then people will accuse 'gamers' of all being obsessively protective of their virtual 'waifus' because they don't want other guys ogling their women(if they don't ignore the existence of those more modestly designed characters altogether).
Not only do they not differ too greatly from the way the females in similar non-interactive entertainment genres are presented, they also aren't treated in any especially degrading manner compared to male characters in stories directed at predominately female audiences(or that have a large female/gay male periphery fan-base).
The people who look down their noses at gaming as a hobby aren't going to stop just because a few 3-d models which are designed to resemble females are re-textured to have less surface area that looks like flesh.
I wonder what the odds are on a USA exclusive skin for Juliette being a Lady Liberty costume (with optional functional torch accessory).
If Grasshopper wants to pander to my immature teenage self, they are more than welcome to.
Yeah, I agree. They're taking it a bit too far. I get it, she's a hot, young cheerleader-type, but does that have anything to do with the gameplay? It's really embarrassing that so much attention is paid to the objectification of the female form when for most gamers, it seems they'd rather keep their games and pornographic interests separate. Honestly, it's so blatant that it gets me thinking so much about sex, I've got to stop playing a game and watch some porn, and everyone knows where that leads. I'm talking about masturbation, of course.
I wouldn't want to condone or contribute to the idea that representing women like Juliet is perfectly fine, but I also have that hormonal, primal side of myself that completely buys into the design, which I accept and embrace but also strive to differentiate from my intellectual, rational (ethical?) side.
If we're showing Juliet running around in sexy clothes, why not have Nick in a thong, with his cod sloshing around against his legs to even out the game? Before he gets decapitated of course.
It gets to the point where, like when viewing the Soul Calibur 5 ass ads, I can't help but just groan and shake my head. It's fucking exasperating, and terribly unsexy to feel its necessary to portray women in such ways, just as it is to see the unending parade of young, white, clean-cut, dark-haired, male heroes that always seem to have the same cocky, self-assured, yet vulnerable attitude. Perhaps it irritates me so much because it does not reflect myself or my life in anyway, or anyone else I know for that matter. Then again, when do video games ever accurately portray life?
I mean, of course I LIKE SEX. I bloody love it. But I also believe in showing a little discretion, restraint, and most importantly respect when dealing with that subject.
That's just my thoughts on this issue.
Of course, in the end......fuck it, man.
I think you mean polygons ;)
^That's worth about $50. If and only iff you find a girl who likes you. + dinner. Maybe.
Fuck this game. Right in the center of it's disc. Nipples.fart
the biker costume is hot as hell but the waitress Costume is a must too!!!!
argh decisions decisions!!
btw the bunny costume reminded me of that bunny in Silent Hill 3/4 :P
and cheers for Tara Strong voicing Juliet.
fits her character plus she kinda look like a younger Riku to be honest XD
please Meganekko style teacher and valentines day costume please!!!!!!!!
I WANT ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!
I disagree. There's plenty vague and not-so-vague attempts at sexuality in games. Every game character looking like the hottest of the hot male/femalemodels is a hint. And it's fine. It's all for the sake of entertainment and ease of consuming said entertainment.
Plus, this game is a parody of blatant, Bayonetta-esque heights. No need to get moralistic about this issue at all. In fact, I think modern cultures of the world are being too squeamish about sex and sexuality. We should be freer about it, not get ever more squeamish.
