Logitech working on a UMD add-on for PSPgo? photo

Just the idea is hilarious. It's like an external CD drive for your silly netbooks. Sure, it's useful, but you just feel silly pulling it out.

I like the PSPgo, and I don't think it needs external UMD support, but the rumors are out there anyway. It seems that PC peripheral and accessories company Logitech is the rumored maker of this drive. A secret source tells CVG that this device will allow UMD games to be played on the PSPgo.

"The only problem is that it'll make the PSP a little bulky," says their source.

"We're not aware of it, so it may be something the US office is working on," says Logitech's UK office.

Keep it. We don't need it. Those that were opposed to the PSPgo kept their perfectly fine PSPs. Those that were fine with the transition got on board.

We could ask Sony about this. Of course, I'd expect them to scoff and "not comment on rumors." Maybe they'll like my concept image, though.

If said add-on allowed you to rip your UMDs into a little DRM'd package for your PSP-Go then color me interested. I'd be more than happy to buy one just to use all my idolm@ster DLC.

Makes sense to me since they're not going to offer all PSP games as digital downloads. Well assuming you want to do things legally and not just hack the dumb thing.

@lolipantsu:
It's not first party, so I don't think Sony will allow that.

this actually sounds like a good idea to ensure you can keep your umd games. and take more of your money. I'm still sticking with my 3000.

Um ... I have no problems at all pulling out the external DVD drive for my netbook, nor do I feel silly for doing so. :P

I hope it looks exactly like the header image.

If something like this was reasonably priced then I would probably make the jump to the Go.

I saw the header before I saw the headING and my heart skipped a beat at the sight of a Shinra peripheral. But then I read the article and my heart sank. =(

External UMD drive, AKA PSP-3000. =D

imo and as a PSP Go owner; stupid and pointless accessory.

us that went w/the Go went willingly and in turn gave up on UMDs. (or atleast i did).

for those that have UMDs; stick w/your PSP 1000/2000/3000. once your ready to ditch the physical media, then the Go is your PSP. the UMD addon defeats idea of what the Go is (small and digital/umd-less)

interesting to see what pricing may be though (over $50 and its doomed)

Id buy a PSP Go if this existed. I have a old ass 1000 so its fat and has a dim screen. Ill either replace it with a 3000 or a Go but only if the Go has an external option, I have too many PSP games to give that up, but I do really like the Go design.

I think I want a Go. I almost never play UMDs in my 2000 anymore, I'm always playing downloaded games off my mem stick... wonder when they'll do a price drop...

I would have upgraded but I have 35 UMD games. I don't want to have to rebuy everything.

I'm reminded of why I didn't buy a pc with a disc drive a few years ago. Its because it saved on price and weight. While the PSP saves on weight, it doesn't save on price.

Absolutely blinding stuff, Logitech.

See, Sony? That's all you had to create and launch alongside PSP Go, and everyone would have been happy as a pig in mud, and you couldn't even get that right.

Now, with this, PSP Go is a very viable option. I hope Logitech clean up nicely with it, and when PSP Go drops in price, I might actualy buy one and one of these.

PSPgo is an evil Nazi machine.

Man, been a while since I had the oppurtunity to say that.

if it could copy stuff from the UMD TO the Go? I'd be all over this and a Go.

but Sony has to worry about potential lost sales on OLD games, and instead alienate their customer base by not enabling us to obtain digital versions of our games we own.

I don't see Sony having a problem with this, beyond sour grapes, since they could have done it themselves, and Logitech will be selling it as an accessory. As it doesn't fiddle with PSP's guts and just plugs in, they have little to worry about.

Or, you know, you could just get a 3000 and ignore the pointless Go. Seems to make way more sense to me.

the go makes a lot of sense, actually. not having to carry around umd's kinda fits with the idea of a portable console, which is kind of the point. The problem is the ridiculous price tag, and the fact that it's useless to people who already own a previous model.

I wouldn't mind that. Just depends on how much I'd have to drop to pick it up. Once past the $80 mark, you lost me.

this is stupid, its all about portability these days, the macbook air did it, now the PSP-go. it's so pointless they make the owners fork out an extra 100$ because they wanted the system to be a half inch smaller. just get the normal PSP
