Logitech premium PS3 Guitar Hero drum kit looks familiar photo

Logitech has announced today its PlayStation 3 “Premium Drum Controller” for Guitar Hero, a $229.99 monster kit that will be available this July in the U.S., and August this Europe. The drums will also work with PlayStation 2 versions of Guitar Hero.

Officially licensed by Activision, the wireless drum kit features three adjustable drums head with recessed rims, making sure you hit the mark every time. The kick pedal has a stainless steel surface and what Logitech says is an “adjustable spring”; but looking at the image, it looks awfully similar to the official, out-of-the-box kick pedal.

You can keep this thing juiced up for 50 hours with two AA batteries, so you can rock until your arms fall off.

Admittedly, I have far too many drum sets in my house as it is; I’ll pretend like it’s just one Rock Band kit and one Guitar Hero kit, so you don’t think I’m weird. But I’d be willing to upgrade to a better, more solid kit provided it looks worth the money. Not so sure this is doing it for me -- it kind of just looks like the official kit with better materials.

What do you guys think?

Looks very cool, But I'm happy enough with the one that comes with World Tour for now.

I want (good) DLC for GHWT, not a new drumset.

It looks pretty solid but I think the price is a little high for sure.

Meh.. I don't play the drums. They sit there unused as it is. I'm all about the guitar.

I'm thinking about buying a game and microphone separately, Since I mostly sing when I play with my friends. Singstar music is meh, and I'm all about the rock. Should I go at first with rock band or guitar hero? I also want to gradually get the instruments, witch one is the best/most compatible of the two? Should I get third party ones?

@CBunn: Get Rock Band 2 and rent Rock Band 1 and export the songs.

The cymbals look like they're placed better, but I am still holding out until I have enough money for the ION Drum Rocker.

If I'm going to get a premium drum kit, I'll get one with an actual drum brain. Like the ION.

you know for not much more you can get a real electronic drum kit- it is akin to paying a bunch for a GH controller- why not just get a real guitar and learn to play?

Whormongr; if it's the same as the ION (it is, I know the pads), it IS a real drumset. It doesn't just double as one, it is.

The ION is actually a Simmons SD5K, using the hi-hat pedal as the bass drum pedal.

I work at Musician's Friend in the Returns department, it IS a Simmons kit.

This appears almost identical, the pads are slightly different and the rack is way different.
(The Simmons kits suck, the pads fail frequently.)

Looks familiar? When I looked at this thing, I saw the ION. As far as I'm concerned, if you're going to pay over $200 for a drum controller, you may as well get the one from the real drum company:

A couple years from now, you'll have a room full of plastic junk and worse of all, they're all the same except with minor improvements and differences. Was it worth it?
