Logitech launches 'premium' Wii music game controllers photo

Both the Logitech Wireless Guitar Controller for Wii and the Wireless Drum Controller for Wii look like pretty solid offerings. Fancy-pants, if you will. They're both Activision approved, so they'll work with Guitar Hero 5 and Band Hero. They look to be quite high-end, almost like the real things.

The guitar has a maple neck, rosewood fingerboard and metal frets, just like the real deal. It also has a pick guard, noise dampening, and even a touch sensitive slider on the fret board for finger tapping. Damn. That's better than my real guitar. The drums use parts that are closer to that of professional digital drums, and even have adjustable heights and positioning. The drum controller actually folds up flat for easy portability. For both the guitar and drums, you Wii Remote snaps inside the instrument.

As these are closer to real instruments, you'll pay prices that are close to that of real instruments. The guitar will go for $199 and the drums for $229 when they both launch in the US in October.

Logitech: making Guitar Hero seem slightly closer to being a legitimate talent.

All the more reason I love Logitech Console Peripherals. I want them to make a Fight Pad or something :( Then I'd be really happy.

That guitar is almost twice as expensive as my real one. Mine came with an amp. This doesn't even come with a game.

@Mach - Jesus, you got a guitar and an amp for around 100?? Where did you pick it up, Best Buy or Walmart?

@PappaDukes: For real. And was it one of those starter kits? Good economy guitars usually start in the $299-$399 range, just for the guitar.

You can get some okay beginner guitars for the $200 price mark. Eh.

Why's it got a precision bass pickguard? I appreciate they couldn't copy the true Strat design exactly but come on, that looks remedial.

Not seeing how it costs $200 either. Assuming the photos are accurate, good rosewood is darker than that and even cheap maple is lighter. There are real, very cheap starter guitars with higher grade wood than this, where's your money going?

I got my acoustic for $150 at a pawn shop and it still has a beautiful tone.

@PappaDukes No, I got it online. It's a starter kit. Not that great honestly. But it's still a real instrument. My Acoustic on the other hand is $140 and sounds great. I don't have anything aginst rhythme games -I have guitar hero and rock band- but spending more money on a guitar shaped controller than you would on an actually guitar... Well, that's just kind of ridiculous.

What a joke, this is for the people that break the plastic ones easily.

@mach - I said you had something against rhythm games?!? Weird. I don't even remember posting anything even closely game related. Which is quite ironic of me being on a video game blog and all. But cool beans anyways.

You can get a cheap used electronic kit that's compatable for close to that. Then you at least get a mildly functional brain so it's good for more than just the game.

Too rich for my blood--I'll stick with the bundles of plastic-looking controllers.

You can get a Fender Squier starter pack for that price-an actual solid guitar no matter what any one says. Ridiculous.

But it is tempting if the tremolo arm has realistic tension.
