Logitech announces pimp new G27 racing wheel photo

Logitech has announced its new G27 racing wheel peripheral, and it almost looks nicer than what's probably in your actual car. This serves to replace the G25, and makes some improvements over that predecessor as well. The new wheel face now has six buttons instead of two, and the shifter has a centering spring and better engagement feel, with a new diagonal-cut helical gear system.

The new RPM/shift indicator has a 10-LED display that developers can use to show redline or anything they choose. The pedals have also been upgraded with an option for horizontal adjustment, and taller standoffs to make for smoother downshifting. If you want all the smaller deets on what's changed since the G25, Logitech has a blog post up that can serve your needs.

The G27 is compatible with both PC and PlayStation 3. No word yet on a release date, but it will retail for $300, and is available now for pre-order direct from Logitech. I think I'll stick with my Dualshock 3. Any serious business racing fans out there looking forward to this?

The only thing my car wheel is missing is the couple of buttons to enter showtime mode

And, it's more expensive than a PS3! By a whole cent!

I don't have a racing wheel for my PS3 and if this is any better than the mediocre at best 360 wheel than I'm sold. I'm not saying that I don't like the 360 wheel, it's just that the limited range of motion requires a lot more getting used to than any steering wheel peripheral should.

I play Forza 2 regularly, and it would be nice to test this because I've never used one. Of course $300 is crazy, but it looks cool for this kind of accessory.

I really wish that they would make this wheel for the 360 since the official Microsoft one sucks ass compared to the G25.

I love racing simulations but I can't afford a peripheral I would only use for GT5 whenever that comes out :/

I'll stick with my G25. Not enough to make me spend $300 for such few upgrades, while I admit are nice... doesn't make me upgrade. Especially since I'm not a "hardcore" racing gaming. I do like them though.

This looks really interesting, but that price point a touch high. You could buy a game console for that.

Well, fortunately this isn't for the 360 or I would be $300 poorer. It looks like that wheel has both paddle shifters and a manual-style gearbox--that's a really nice touch. I could easily see using the paddles for Formula 1 games and the manual gearbox for street racing games.

For sim racing wheels, $300 dollars for what you get is CHEAP. There are many, I repeat, many wheels with much better construction that are in the $500-$1300 range. Many without pedals included, which also can sit in that price range.

The G27 is a great overall package, however if you are already racing with a G25 or a Fanatec GT3RS, there is little reason to upgrade.

Looks like the gear stick is independent from the wheel, it's good not to be forced into silly left hand drive shenanigans. If money wasn't a factor, I would definitely get one.

this was also the case with the G25, which I love, now I just have to convince my fiancee to get this G27 too, and THAT is gonna be a problem....
