Loads of Okami DS information photo

By now you should all be well aware that Okamiden, a sequel to the critically acclaimed PS2 game Okami, is heading to the Nintendo DS. Now there's a whole wad of information for you to gorge yourselves upon like the greedsome parasites you know you are.

Okamiden takes place several months after the events of Okami, and places you in the furry shoes of wolf pup Chibiterasu. Issun, the guide from the original game, takes Chibiterasu to visit Sakuya, who needs the help of the young baby wolf.

The gameplay is being held under lock and key by Capcom, but it looks like the puzzle solving, exploration and combat of this new game follow the standards set by Okami. The Celestial Brush will be making a return, and naturally it'll be up to the touch-screen and stylus to paint strokes across the world, slashing the screen to attack enemies and doodling circles to make trees come to life.

Okamiden will differ from Okami with the appearance of partners for little Chibiterasu, who you will need to work with in order to advance the game. For example, one puzzle involves a bridge that cannot be crossed with a partner riding on Chibiterasu's back. Players will have to draw a path for the partner first, then follow with Chibiterasu afterwards. The first partner character to be revealed is Kuninushi, son of Okami's Susano. The game will explain how Susano had a child in a matter of months.

Okamiden's director, Kuniomi Matsushita, told Famitsu that he wanted an Okami game on the DS to enable as many people as possible to experience Okami's beautiful visuals and game system. Matsushita was so adamant on making a portable Okami, he had created a prototype before even telling producer Motohide Eshiro his plans. Obviously, Eshiro saw the prototype and decided a full game would be made, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about it right now.

And that's wonderful news for everybody.

Even though it still looks amazing, I can't help but wonder just how good a sequel would've looked on PS3/360...

My point being: absolutely nothing

Not happening doesn't mean SHOULDN'T happen. It would be a major score for the "truly great games" camp, and that is just an undeniable fact.

Wishing, when vocalized repeatedly and en masse is the way these things happen.

I remember seeing Susano's son at the end of Okami, after the credits, so there's no problem there.

I still can't believe we're getting a sequel to Okami.

Can anyone tell me if the Clover folks who worked on the first one are working on this one as well? I remember that they were dissolved as a studio after the first. I will be a skeptical man if they are not working on it again.

Please people! It's nonsense to complain about something THAT DOESN'T EXIST. We can complain about how good things should have looked on a PS3 or 360 if they make a PS3 or 360 version now can't we?

@Everyday Legend

Maybe it shouldn't? They alreadly tried it on the PS2 and they may just want to stick with more brush friendly control schemes like the Wii and DS. Perphas they can make a port once the Wand and NATAL come out but I don't really think that we should be complaining at all that a sequel to one of the greatest games ever just happens to not be on a home console. We don't even know if it's going to be released in English so I think we need to tackle things one step at a time.

"a sequel to the critically acclaimed PS2 game Okami"

It was also on the Wii as well, but of course Jim didn't have his Wii in 2008, so it doesn't exist is his world!

@ PEICanada7

It wasn't as critically acclaimed on Wii, due to a general dislike for the loose controls among critics, therefore including it on that sentence is not appropriate.

Ammy as a puppy! I called it. Ok, so it's not exactly Ammy, its Chibi, but whatevs. I was right and you all have to deal with that.

Again, it wasn't critically acclaimed on the Wii: the PS2 version is cited as the superior iteration.

Plus, the Wii one has a IGN watermark on it to cement that version as a joke.

I wonder if Chibi is the son or daughter of Amateratsu?

Oh god, I want this NOW.

I thought Chibiterasu was a joke-name at first. Also, while I'm sure it will be explained, how could the sun-god have a child? Or is it just an ordinary wolf?

Not as strong as the first game's story, but it still seems surreal that Okami is getting another game.

You're full of it.

I don't mean the score. I mean the reviews.

BTW, I just have the PS2 version, but this is about your claim of what others thought, and that claim is false.

As much as I love Okami, I still think making it a franchise is a mistake. The original game was pretty self contained.

Except for the "Hey guys, there's gonna be a sequel!" ending...
