Live blog: Nintendo Media Summit press briefing, Day 1

11:13 AM on 10.02.2008, Nick Chester 37 comments

     DS

Following Nintendo of Japan's revealing press conference last night (or this morning, depending on where you are), Nintendo of America is holding their own media event in cloudy San Francisco, California.

We're here live, sitting in a tightly packed conference room with -- surprise! -- complimentary Wi-fi! You know what that means: live blog time. While we don't anticipate that Nintendo of America will surprise us with any "new" announcements, we should get some North American-specific news for you to chew on.

Hit the jump for our live blog, which should be shortly ...

DSI release well into 2009?

WTF

Japan is still selling DS like crazy (not as much as before, but still a large amount), and their getting it in November 1, 2008.

Doesn't Nintendo of America know that the DS is region free, and that other people will just import the thing?

I sure will. I'm not waiting till "well into" 2009 to get the new DSI. Fuck you Nintendo of America, for taking so long to release shit.

Seriously, wouldn't the DSI benefit from being sold for the holiday season?

Punch Out 2 in the first half of 2009 is cool. At least we don't have to wait all that long for it!

DSi sounds lame. Only thing exciting is MadWorld and The Conduit.

Come on Nintendo, less Wii Music, more bad-ass titles and "the one everyone is waiting for"...getting tired of this Wii Music crap.

So, I guess if you tell NoA how to stop sucking, then they stop sucking.

Nice.

Cool, Sin & Punishment 2 confirmed for American release, The Conduit being published by Nintendo, Madworld is still awesome and a think the "Play for Wii" thing will be cool if the graphics are also updated.
Nice, Nintendo, very nice.

So it would seem that everything in this summit is what everyone wanted from E3. Perhaps Nintendo is trying to send everyone a message about the latter?

Club Nintendo, Mad World, and The Conduit have me hooked. DLC bought with in-game earnings...I think if Nintendo keeps that up, they'll completely redefine DLC, which would be great for games of the future. Too bad MM9 didn't have this system.

Still waiting for some better games, but at least this is a damn good start. They don't have my complete respect yet, but they are going in the right direction.

E3 was over two months ago. So get over it, and move on with your life already. Almost everyone else has LOL!

@ PEICanada7

Look, my statement might have been ambiguous, but you're sort of a cock for not asking what I meant and just assuming the worst. Lol. And shit.

What I meant was that if Nintendo had this sort of presence at E-3, maybe people wouldn't have spent the last few months bitching about how the company had allegely forgotten them. This wasn't a perfect showing, but I think that it made it clear that Nintendo hasn't forgotten the so-called "hardcore" crowd at all.

Cool?

@ byrc

Could be a supply issue. The thing releases really soon in Japan, so maybe they're trying to avoid a shortage by concentrating their upcoming stock on that territory before expanding to others.

Or maybe we're just getting the short end of the stick.
