LittleBigPlanet will sell PS3s photo

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that LittleBigPlanet is shaping up to be a pretty good game. In fact, I’m going to go ahead and spill the beans. LBP will probably be a commercial success. Apparently associate producer for the game, Eric Fong, is thinking along the same lines as I am. In an interview with gamesindutry.biz, Fong believes that the success of the game will lead to hardware sales.

It's going to be a hardware seller. Not only do you have the platforming experience that a lot of other games will have, you have this creativity that really is exclusive to LittleBigPlanet.
I’m partial to the ideas of LittleBigPlanet, and I was really hooked when I saw the ingenuity utilized during the Sony Press Conference at E3 this year. Yet, will the great ideas and success lead to sales of the PlayStation 3? It doesn’t seem like LBP will have the same effect that a Halo or Mario title does for their respective machines in terms of name recognition, which goes quite a long way. What do you guys think? For those of you without a PS3, will you be getting one when LBP hits?

Of course it won't sell consoles like a well established franchise, but it'll surely sell some hardware.

Your last point about the PS3 not really having a marquee title to sell units... that's one of things I actually like about the PS3. I think this lack of a kind of "template game" such as the Mario games for Nintendo's consoles really leaves the field wide-open for games on the PS3. I think this positioning of Sony's console is a boon to creativity on the platform.

Character design is awesome. This would be a system seller for a cheaper console but the PS3 is seen very much as an adult entertainment system. I doubt it will really affect things too much.

I'm eventually getting a PS3 for Blu-Ray first, and games like LBP and MGS4 second.
But yeah, it's making me consider getting the system sooner.

its the only game on the PS3 to actually look forward too. I honestly don't think I'll buy another game for that console this year unless a sleeper creeps in, I've no interest in Resistance or Killzone

I think LBP will push units, but I think it will fade fast with casual gamers, this is for the hardcore crowd once the single player campaign is over

alot of it depends on advertising, it cant be a commercial success without commercials

It's definitely got me interested, that's for sure. I'm not sure I can justify the price for one game, but if I did this would be it.

If it's marketed correctly, it could do wonders for Sony.

It's the first game since MGS4 I've preordered, and before that it was Okami.

A system seller? I'm not so sure about that one. As was stated by somebody else, there aren't that many PS3 games on my radar for the rest of the year: Rock Band 2, Little Big Planet, and skate. 2 if that's out this year.

i dunno about it being a system seller...metal gear solid 4 was the system seller for me, little big planet will just be a nice bonus now that i've already got the ps3

Little Big Planet isn't so much a system seller in its own right. It's more of a tipping game. People that have an interest in the PS3 for any reason but still haven't gotten one will look at this game as further reinforcement. This game won't warrant a system purchase, but it will be another solid entry that will make the PS3 a worthwhile investment.

So, combine it with Metal Gear Solid 4. Combine it with the new Final Fantasy when it hits the system first. Combine it with hardware non-failure rates and a blu-rays player, and some other exclusive that I can't think of because it probably doesn't exist. Add it all together and it warrants a console purchase.

Ir wouldn't do it on its own. But the addition of it finally starts to make the PS3 look like a worthy investment to a much wider audience.

While I am still not on the LBP hype train so take my opinion for what it is...LBP is not the sort of title that will move hardware or create buzz with the majority of gamers...that is unless there is some creative marketing pointing out that you actually 'make' the game yourself.

If i just saw a video of the game being played I would have little to no interest whatsoever.

Pretty good sentiments in the comments here. As for the advertising, I see ad's for this game at least twice a day on TV but they are probably the worst ads ever. They basically just show the little dudes running around willy nilly and are like, buy a PS3 so you can play this soon. All they have managed to do is cement my disinterest.

If I didn't have a PS3, Little Big Planet would be a title that could potentially sway me to purchase one - depending on how well LBP and its features were realized. I'd actually be more likely to purchase a PS3 (if I didn't have one) because of an exclusive like LBP rather than MGS4. Crazy eh?

Honestly, I don't get it. It's a puzzle/platform game that you can play with friends and make your own levels for...so what? They're banking on the fact that people are going to spend the time making levels instead of playing the game...isn't that a developers job? Also, they're going to allow downloads of kick ass "player-made" levels, but will they be free? How big will they be? I just don't get it...or care for that matter.

The only reason I did buy my PS3 was for LBP and also for Bluray.

Apart from playing bluray movies the only game I have physicaly bought from a shop is Everybody's Golf: World Tour.

Online I have bought a few PSN titles such as Flow, Eden, Monsters, Pain & Locoroco.

But the only game at the time I bought my PS3 that I was interested in and still is LBP.

I'll say it: I bought a PS3 FOR LBP.

I've never been a huge MGS fan, so that didn't do it for me. It was LBP and the fact that my PS2 didn't want to load Um Jammer Lammy or Skullmonkeys. But mostly LBP!

Although, I must say that MGS4 may make a convert out of me. It's good!

LBP coming out was the reason that I initially bought a PS3 - Well, that and Blu-Ray - last autumn. I'll go out on a limb here, but if this game is marketed properly - I have every reason to believe Sony will push it hard - LBP will sell more systems than any other exclusive. This game has the potential to really blur the core demographic gamers.

PS3's aren't going to sell big until they drop that console price tag to a reasonable price casual gamer price. The console plus the $60+ games and $30+ Blue-Ray DVD's, is alot of dough. I can only see hardcore gamers buying this game.

I thought MGS4 would sell more units than this though.

@teen idol. no such thing as a bluray dvd. and if only the hardcore will buy it then why is the ps3 around? if only hardcore people bought it then we would already have it, this game will be a game that'll transcend everthing you just said, hater. and fuck the casual market, get a wii if you're into casual, my ps3 has rounded edges on every genre. 43 psn titles on my hdd can prove it.

with regards to your question. no it won't make me get a ps3, they're still overpriced in my opinion in europe, they're aren't many games, wipeout hd vanished and final fantasy xiii will be out on my beloved xbox anyway...so it'll take something amazing to get me to buy one.

@? and to purchase a console based on one game is silly to me, i bought mine because i've always liked how sony has alot of great 1st party stuff (mark of kri,eco,gow,syphon,crash1,2 and 3,mgs, ff,jak ). I knew what i'd be in store for a whiles now.

When I finally get around to buying a PS3 for MGS4 and/or the next Team ICO game, then I'll probably get this as well, but I certainly wouldn't buy a PS3 just for LittleBigPlanet alone.

I like my PS3, . . . I actually like all 3 of the consoles and use them all. .
But I totally disagree with you on this one. . I have NO desire to play this game, way too cute, and I don't do cute. . .I go on a lot of gaming sites every day and while they are trying to create a buzz about this game, it's just not catching on.
Gone are the days when ALL teens loved Mario and Sonic, teens and up want blood and guts now, . . not cute, and this game is cute.
So like many games that have success with the critics and don't do good numbers, I think that this is one of those games.

can't say whether or not this will sell ps3 i would figure that only people who frequent sites like this even know of little big planet and that the general population probably has no clue and are fine playing their wiis. then again the game looks fantastic and i'm definately picking it up and i'm not even a huge platformer fan.

@Speedbag
if you dont think people will create their own levels you are just dead wrong not everyone will of course but there are many people who just CRAVE this sort of thing. Really makihng a good level that stands out and people want to play is an accomplishment in and of itself and i know many a person who might buy the game for that alone

I have to say I expect this one to sell a lot of consoles, but only if marketed correctly. They seem to be putting out a lot of great trailers but I haven't seen anything on TV yet. It has potential to be a moderate system seller
