Awesome, can't wait for the Vita.
As for handheld gaming dying, I doubt it. As long as dedicated handhelds keep getting games like this, and unless the competition (iOS and android) get standard controls, they are still two different beasts to me.

LBP is weird. It's a game I enjoy, but have a hard time playing alone. Getting a group of friends together is usually the only way I play it. This looks sweet and all, but I don't know if I'll get it.
Goddam.. I think I'm going to have to buy one.. I've been trying to resist but man it's just too amazing.
Here is a thought about the Vita and all the people who champion .99-cent games: aren't titles like Little Deviants and Little Big Planet equivalent to a whole bunch of .99-cent games? I mean, if your criticism of Vita is that you like mini-games better than "console games" on mobile platforms, than isn't that need taken care of with the purchase of either of these two games?
Eh. Am I the only one who has not been that impressed with either of these new handhelds? I mean the games for both of them cost 40 to 50 bucks a piece and most of the good looking ones are ports or in the case of the vita new entries in console series that don't really seem that different than their console counterparts. I know people seem to think smartphone games are crap, but jeez if i want to play a game on the go, for a buck a piece its not hard to find a few great games to play on the touchscreen. Either Sony and Nintendo figure out a way to make these games much cheaper, or i will not be purchasing either of their systems.

It seems what you really want is a cell phone, not a portable game console. I'd say just stick with the phone and save yourself 250-300 dollars. Personally, I think those phone games lack gameplay. They're good for a moment of free time, but I used to take the bus for two hours to get to school and two hours is way too fucking long to play angry birds. Unless what you mean is that you want cheaper games, in which case you've got a huge selection of psn minis that range from .99 - $5.

@kingbui, you're right i'm just speaking for myself of course, and if people buy these things that's great more power to them. There's nothing inherently wrong with this or the 3ds. It just seems to me that there isn't anything that i'm super excited abut on either of these consoles IMO. Just looking at Lbp, Ive already played this game 3 times. twice on the ps3 once on the psp. It just kinda irks me that we haven't seen much on the way of unique or quirky titles that were such a big part of both the psp's and the ds's original libraries. They just seem content to make console rehashes.

I own an iPad and iPhone and I highly doubt any of the games can even remotely compare to LBP,Uncharted,Resistance,etc. The majority of Mobile games are simple time killers,PSV games will be "real" games and I'll gladly pay $40-50 if the quality is there.

@MCBattery, and that's great! If thats what you want i'd be quite excited for this, i just kinda miss the quirky stuff that was made for the old ds and psp. Trauma Center anyone?

Check out Sound Shapes (my personal favorite of the games announced so far) and Escape Plan. They seem to fit what you're looking for. Though that only seems to leave two games for you. Maybe in a year or two when the library has had some time to develop you'll find something, also price drops.

The way I judge a new system, be it handheld or home console, is of off pure potential. And damn, does the vita look promising! Another system purchase in the near future for me.

Yeah it's like a requirement to end every portable article with negativity of the future. If phones do anything it's shrink the handheld gaming market to the "veteran" gamer, which means the market is us readers of Destructoid and every other videogame dedicated site. Every gamer I talk to agrees that phone gaming is nice, but it's not a proper substititute for a dedicated handheld gaming system. I understand why sitesthat don't cover videogames on a regular basis feel this way towards dedicated handhelds, but I'm baffled at how so many videogame websites believe a phone without physical buttons is on par with with handheld gaming. Sure phone gaming has it's moment, but comparing it to a dedicated handheld is insulting.
