LittleBigPlanet patches hit Europe, people no longer offended photo

Today, European early LittleBigPlanet owners were prompted to download a patch to upgrade their games to version 1.01. Surprisingly, the patch didn’t edit out the scandalous song that we have heard so much about lately. Instead, it fixed some online functions and added a few more costumes.

Not to seem insensitive yet again, Media Molecule promptly rolled out another patch to take care of Tourmani Diabate’s track “Tapha Niang.” Instead of completely killing the track, the patch removed the vocal track from the song. There has yet to be any indication from Media Molecule of the patch doing anything else to the game.

Out of all the games on the PlayStation 3 release calendar, who would have thought LBP would be the one to cause controversy? The second patch will only affect those who got hold of the game early.  As a result of the recall, all new copies of LBP will presumably have this patch on the disc.

I still want to know what pinhead actuallty greenlit anything regarding Islam being put into a video game. Regardless of whether you think the lyrics are inflammatory this is just epic stupidity!

I'm offended that I finally found a copy of the game today, and Sears wouldn't sell it to me.

...So what the fuck is the point of the the recall if they patch it? They basically delayed the game for nothing.

@covah: Not true. There are at least a few people out there who don't have their PS3 hooked up to the Internet; thus, their game can't be patched. A full recall was the only way to ensure that all copies would be fixed.

@Bart999- 1. The lyrics are in Swahili. I am quite sure that the percentage of people on the dev team who actually speak Swahili is zero.

2. The song had been around for nearly two years before this incident, during which it helped net the composer a Grammy. Also, no cease and desist complaints were vocalized by any group over the song.

3. Why in the hell should it not be okay to put "anything regarding Islam" into a video game when Buddhist, Judeo-Christian, and Hindu themes are used constantly/with reckless abandon in entertainment? Are you saying that, because the people who are complaining about the game are Muslim, they have some right to not be offended, a right that no other religions possess? Fuck. That.

That's what I didn't understand why recall when you can just patch the song out?

timtheterrible: All religions want the right not to be offended by people who don't make believe the same as them.

The cowardice displayed by Sony on this is obscene. So what, a couple of idiots on a forum said they didn't like something? If they had any balls they'd have cock slapped those kids back to the middle ages (where they belong) and released the game any fucking way they pleased.

In Islam listening to music is a sin. Not many people know that. That's why many Muslims got angry over this because the Quran verses got mixed with music.

secondly, LBP is an E rated game for everyone. Many westerners will not appreciate their kids playing a game that has "all souls shall taste death" and "everyone on it (earth) shall perish" as song lyrics.

so I personally think Sony did the right thing from a business perspective, because sackboy has the potential to becoming its mascot. That's why they want to make sure that no one gets offended by him.

Okay, controversy over.

When are they turning the US servers on so I can play more levels? I'm nearly done with single player mode.

I was originally going to buy this because of the islamic song, yup that's right, the song. But those fuckers at Sony decided to castrate the game, so thank's alot Sony, you just crushed my hopes of playing oversaturated penis levels while listening to islamic mumbo jumbo songs. YOU JUST LOST A CUSTOMER!

I actually have an explanation as to why the Islam sample was used! I have been producing music for many years. On many magazines and internet sources, royalty-free samples are offered for anybody to use..

I too acquired a sample pack from a particular UK music magazine and used the same audio sample in one of my tunes. It was pointed out to me by a Muslim friend that the audio was a sample of a prayer and that i REALLY shouldn't use it.

.. So, there you go! :D

@benjaxez, not everyone has internet for a patch, but they can't get them all back so this is the only measure they can enforce on those who have early copies.

Also, competition to sing vocals over that song?

"secondly, LBP is an E rated game for everyone. Many westerners will not appreciate their kids playing a game that has "all souls shall taste death" and "everyone on it (earth) shall perish" as song lyrics."

...in a foreign language. Like fuck the vast majority of "westerners", let alone kids, are going to understand it. If the above poster is to be believed, it's in Swahili for crying out loud.
