LittleBigPlanet manual is just as colorful as the game photo

If you’re dying for more tidbits of information on LittleBigPlanet, I’ve got a brightly colored little goodie for you, courtesy of Kotaku: the game’s instruction manual! SCEA has made the 37-page booklet available online (download the PDF here), and it reveals some details on the game.

First off, there’s the game’s control scheme. Technically, I was already aware of this, since I played the game at PAX, but the woman who was demoing the game only told us the basics so we could make it through the level. Of note is the D-pad, which can be used to change your SackPerson’s (looks like that’s the official androgynous term) facial expression.

You can hit select at any time to bring up the “Good Grief!” menu, a tool for reporting levels featuring resemblances to genitalia and other offensive content (page 15 pleads for “nothing that would offend your granny”). There’s also a brief synopsis of the story mode, the existence of which was confirmed by PS3 Fanboy a while ago. Here’s what the book has to say (see page 10 for more):

[T]he residents of LittleBigPlanet™ need your help! Many characters and their creations have gone mysteriously missing and nobody knows why. You’ve arrived just in time: we need your help to unravel this worrying conundrum and catch the sneaky culprit...

The guidebook also includes plenty of information on what you can do in the game -- which is, I suppose, just what you’d expect to find in an instruction manual. I’m just exceedingly happy that it’s a full-color manual; I can’t remember the last time I saw a manual that wasn’t in black-and-white. Folks, this is just the kind of stuff that you simply can’t get with digital distribution. I can’t wait to open my copy of LittleBigPlanet and flip through the manual while savoring that wonderful “new game smell.”

[Via Kotaku -- thanks, Joe!]

I wish I had a PS3, sadly it's a but out of my budget now, maybe in the future though. And I agree, full color manuals are great, I'm sick of this black and white crap.

damn all I wanted to know was if I could upload pictures already taken with the PlayStation Eye. doesn't seem like we could

During my family's Labor day BBQ I took individual pics of everyone.
I had hoped to make a family photo album level. and surprise everybody with the stage on Thanksgiving/Christmas

god i hope this is far far far from true

Colored games manuals? I didn't think such a thing existed anymore. About time.

Who cares if the manual is color or black and white? WTF? this is an article? Really? Important stuff wow!

LittleBigPlanet will be fun for 2 weeks or so, then will be filed away to collect dust like wii titles do.

Game is for kids...i don't care how many people try to convince me otherwise...it's a freaking 2d side scrolling game. Honestly how long can you play a game like that, unless you're a lil kid.

Norm -

So based on my response you infered that i am saying Gears of war is the only good game out there? Incorrect of you. There are tons of different genres out there that I enjoy. But i usually reserve the 2d side scrolling point A to point B games for xbox live arcade or PSN where i pay 10 bucks for them, because that's what they're worth.

I don't care if they have 100 maps for this game, or 100 different costumes...it is still side scrolling that so many games on the NES were famous for. Been there done that...no thanks. I'll save my money for Fallout, Fable, Dead Space, Saints Row, Mirrors Edge...too many legit games coming out to mess around with kiddie games.

I belong to those kind of people that only read the manuals when stuck. I usually open the box, install the game and use the manual for the sole purpose of finding the install key.

Thank god for tutorials.

Trailers, Teasers, Previews, Manuals...

I want the GAME now please. Thank you.

@Gott
You think this is just a 2D side-scrolling game? OK, please refrain from playing this game. Ever.

Although the game is incredibly charmy, I have to agree with Gott: it's basically a side scrolling game. I love those games, but there are so few that I still play (once I finished Super Paper Mario I sold it).

The game looks for kids, yes, but I want to try it though, without have to buy it (rent it or borrow it perhaps).

About time someone puts effort into the printed product. I'm so sick of bare-bones manuals that I wonder why they are even put in to begin with.
