LittleBigPlanet isn't just an obstacle course: Game will include enemies photo

It almost breaks my heart to think that the adorable little freaks that star in LittleBigPlanet have creatures out there that would want to do their darling faces harm, but it also pleases me greatly that the cute title won't just be an obstacle course simulator. Pete Wilson, senior producer for Media Molecule has confirmed that you won't merely be riding skateboards and climbing up walls, you'll also have to deal with more malicious elements.

"It's funny -- I don't think we actually mentioned this previously, but yes, we will certainly have enemies in the game; I think that's a fundamental part of good gameplay," Wilson told Electronic Gaming Monthly. "They will range from little robots that simply roam from left to right to spectacularly complex beasts that pose quite a challenge. We've recently built this big, huge giant, and, as with other objects in the game, he's composed entirely of materials that you wouldn't expect. He's quite intimidating, and shows the possibility of what designers can create."

This is really good news. I've been quite skeptical of LittleBigPlanet, especially from the video trailers that gave me no understanding as to why people are so excited, but Wilson's comments on the kind of enemy creatures we stand to see have already increased my interest significantly. It's quite amusing that the idea of enemies just seemed to slip everybody's mind, but it's very pleasant to have confirmed.

I know have more hope for this game, but I'm still not all that excited about it.

I think that the game is really over exposed. Maybe some time away from it will get me more interested.

SuMizzle, stop reading Destructoid if you have a problem with the way it works, please. Mocking a blog for being ... a blog ... is rather pathetic of you. Please grow the hell up.

I'm not hired to do features. I do news and I do it no differently than my other news editors. So, if I stand out to you, that would mean you're paying me extra special attention and that's quite flatting.

I was so flattered I did a typo.

I think he wants you to make up news Jim. Jeez, its a fucking blog, you guys are paid to scour the grimy depths of the internet to find this news for us readers, and yet people still bitch when you post it? Goddamn SuMizzle, I don't read 1up, I read Destructoid, and Kotaku. So if they don't post it here, I miss it.

Macca: Fuckin' A. Like I always say - some sites might get the news a little faster. Some readers want to see what Destructoid has to say about that news.

Even commenting on a 1up article with "Hi, poo" would actually increase the journalistic qualitative insight of the news.

That aside: I'm glad there is actual gameplay in LBP. Maybe it's not entirely an overhyped online version of Klik & Play with physics and better graphics.

I'm new here, yet love the style with which you guys (an girls) post. Being able to get the news, and have a laugh while reading it is brilliant. Plus, the captions are unbeatable. And I love the fact the writers participate in the comments section. That's dedication.

"Macca, so what if they don't post it hear. That's your bad if you want to limit where you get your information. So Nex n' company make up the news? No one's talking about making up news here junior."

What's the point of coming here if they don't post news other sites already have? I love it for the fact I can get my gaming news from one source. I don't really see what sets Jim apart from Nex and all the other bloggers here with this post. And the making up news was sarcasm, elder.

The only thing that sets me apart, Macca, is that SuMizzle has this creepy thing for me.

Some times, I hate the internets with it's insane level of over reaction.

Internet people over react. If news is even a few hours old, it's "old". If a console isn't a dominanting success right out the gate, it failed (PS3). If a new type of game comes out for a console, people piss and moad, even threaten to sell said console out hatred of new-ness (Wii Fit). And of course, there are tha Matlocks.

STOP THE MADDNESS, INTERNETS!

Am I the only person disappointed by this news? I'd like to see more games without enemies. I don't see why LBP needs them; obstacles will be enough. Am I the only one that thinks Ico would have kicked much more ass without the damned shadow creatures who completely brought the game to a halt to force you to swing your stick wildly?

Release date, Early 2008. And I think it's good theres enemies. I've seen a bit of this game, and it just confused the heck outa me as to what the point was. Sure, it looks great, and I love the art style, but it lacked a real purpose. Now that I know there are levels, with enemies on, makes a lot more sense.

nice, TheBrain.

If you dont like enemies dont make them :D haha lol its that simple, when u other player levels, just check they dont make enemies and just obstacles. :)

thats why I love LBP, you create the content as you wish and share it with your friends, even test your friends abilities to pass your level you created. I think this is the most original game of this generation.

But is it possible to die in LBP, or just get slowed down finding a way to stop the boss.

The only thing that sets Jim apart from the others is he brings an enormous amount of skeptical negativity to anything ps3-so that while most hopeful gamers see it as half full, he seems to not want to see it half full but almost at times delight in its demise. Its GOOD to see Jim not let that presuppostion completely blind him to potential and creative development such as media molecule brings, etc. Jim, keep up the honesty. But I hope you realize in the grand scheme of things the ps3 isnt really doing all that bad and is making a slow turning point in public opinion-this article a point in fact. Cheers-now back to Stardust HD..

@ Sumizzle you dont like the way he finds articles then dont post. Get a fucking life, most blogs get there info from the internet or a tipper. Then they comment on what they think of it. If you dont like it then start your own blog and stfu.

The gta thread was kinda funny now its getting fucking old. All you do is talk in circles and validate nothing so please leave.

Hey Macca, welcome to commenting on Destructoid. I started recently too, after months of reading the site.

Ignore SuMizzle. He's just annoyed that Jim isn't being submissive like his dog used to be.

Chris Taran: Perhaps it's because I'd read so much hype about the trailer before I watched it, but it was disappointing. I saw four little trolls run around a glorified obstacle course and it just bored me. It's getting more interesting the more I hear, but that trailer alone wasn't enough to make me jump on the "best game EVAR" bandwagon.

@ChrisTaran:

If LBP were a 360 exclusive, you can bet your bottom dollar Sterling would be all snuggling up to it like a fat southern baptist kid with a Jesus Christ shaped chocolate cake. It's less of a I amd intrigued by, but distrust this unknown, unique game thing and more of a I fucking hate PS3 because I can thing instead. That being said, it's his column. Maybe hating on Sony still gives you street cred, I don't know. Fuck it.

If this was one of my several reports in which I am critical of Microsoft, you can bet your bottom dollar that Frygar would keep his big mouth shut. That being said, it's his reply. Maybe hopping on the small and obsolete "Jim Sterling hates Sony" bandwage still gives you street cred, I don't know. Fuck it.
