Over the last few days, the guys over at Media Molecule have been working hard to fix some of the minor issues in LittleBigPlanet. The most notable of the fixes came in patch 1.06, which significantly improved moderation of levels. Basically, Media Molecule will now tell users that their penis levels have penises via an in-game message. Also, players can now remove offensive stuff from their levels and upload them again.
From the notes on PlayStation.Blog:
Moderation
Good news on this front - The latest update (1.06) brings in some much requested changes to LBP’s moderation system. While the rules of what is and is not acceptable content for people to share have not changed, we have listened to your feedback and have made the following changes :
These changes, coupled with additional work behind the scenes should alleviate most of the issues that creators have experienced with the moderation system, and there is more to come in the new year. While the number of levels that have been moderated is less than 0.1% of the number that have been created and shared overall, we recognize that better communication is essential and we’ll continue to improve the system in response to your feedback.
An explanation of what constitutes unacceptable content to be shared can be found in the game’s End User License Agreement (EULA) which may be read at any time via the Settings menu in the game, however we recommend you follow these general guidelines :
New Search Modes:
Huge update on this end. We’re introducing more ways to find interesting levels! Not only can you search by the ‘most hearted’, but with the new ratings, you can also find the ‘highest rated’ as well as the ‘busiest’ levels online. So your input when playing other peoples levels will be even more important, so help us, make these search categories a great destination for the community. So “heart” away to those who deserve them, keep awarding those stars and keep commenting to help make peoples levels better. Also, keep in mind that this is just one update to improve the SHARE experience, and there will be more in the future.
“Wheel of Death” bug = FIXED:
The dreadful issue with speeding motorbolts and flinging Sackboys has been looked at, analyzed and corrected. So fling away!!!
In-game store:
Now you can browse and download costumes, level packs, etc, directly from the Pod. Check out the latest costumes and packs on the store and revisit all of your purchases.
Improved peripheral support:
USB keyboards now work and there is broader support for 3rd party controls.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I kid, this is a bit more information than Media Molecule posted on their website yesterday. The only thing they forgot is the Image export: save the photos you take in game to your hard drive. I really like that function.
@aaronf
Try some of the levels your fellow Dtoiders made. Or join us while we search for hidden gems.
I guess this game hasn't had the success it deserves because of people like me.
So I downloaded the holiday pack just now so i can make a winter-themed level for my new niece. it'll be my x-mas gift to her
it will also be my first time making a level, so most likeley it'll suck lots
I think your new niece will be too busy sleeping/crying/pooping/looking for the boob to be much of a critic.
These fixes are nice, I just can't wait until the MGS stuff arrives.
I agree with the spirit of your post but I'd argue that these fixes and the ones that came just a week or two ago were looooong overdue. The game itself is incredible but whoever planned out the online aspects needs to be shot into the sun along with the Metal Gear online crew.
Granted, this isn't as bad as the Castle Crashers fiasco but they've still been slow to address problems until just recently.
You're clearly overreacting. It wasn't broken, they've just finetuned it. I haven't had any problems with the game whatsoever. Metal Gear Online is a different story. I have to agree. What a turd was that.
I honestly don't think I'm overreacting when it comes to the online component of the game. The game itself I have little problem with but the online portion was extremely poorly thought-out and executed. Yes, they've fine-tuned and fixed some of the problems (which I'm very grateful for) but when a game with this much hype ships and fails to address near-crippling online issues--the most important aspect of the game--it's hard not to be critical. Just a short list:
- The level placement system was broken in that horrible levels were given continuous front-page publicity until just recently while other, MUCH better levels were often swept into obscurity. They'd be lucky to get 1/1000th of the promotion of the other crap levels.
- The search function was unreliable and would often return results that were either extremely truncated or incorrect altogether. This is not a good thing when most of the levels are extremely difficult to find to begin with.
- The servers were absolute crap. If you disagree with everything else I say, that's fine but this point is completely 100% true. Users have had connectivity issues, errors, dropped connections, and a host of other problems that have kept them from enjoying the game online with friends. This was obvious for the beta and has only recently been mildly addressed. Seriously, I have a cable connection and whenever I would try to play one of the regular levels with one of hundreds of other players listed, I'd have a 1/15 chance of even connecting--after which I would probably have to start over since they were halfway through the level at that point and I couldn't join.
[Note: I am aware of the user-to-user connection scheme used in the game and do not mean to include those gripes with the previous point.]
There are other problems, but that's the general idea. Now don't get me wrong, I ADORE this game and only want good things for it but it's difficult to enjoy this game to its full potential when the online has been continuously plagued by these issues. These problems should have been addressed several weeks ago not only for our sake but for the game's sake as well. I have little doubt that these issues are part of the reason the game has not been selling well as the resale market has been flooded with unwanted copies.
An-ny-way, glad we at least agree on Metal Gear Online. Dear god that sucker needs work...
Stupid lack of an "edit" button. :P
holy crap.
