Have you ever played a game that can boast over one million levels? You can if you've played LittleBigPlanet! Media Molecule has today celebrated this very fact, with users creating over a million levels for the cute PS3 exclusive. According to the studio, this means that a new LittleBigPlanet level has been born roughly every 21 seconds since the game launched last year.
"In case you were wondering, those million levels have been played a total of 244 million times," states Media Molecule on the PS Blog. I wasn't wondering, but I'm actually pleased I know. That's one heck of a number.
I have to say, I'm proud to have contributed to that number, even if I ever did create just one level. If you still play LittleBigPlanet and you haven't checked it out yet, do a quick search for "Prophecy of the Chicken Child" and let me know what you think of my pro design skills. I think, without a doubt, it is the the best level ever created in the history of videogames.
Seriously though, huge congratulations to Media Molecule! Hit the jump for a celebration video.

Meet the rest of the team
I've replayed LBP recently after hearing that the network problems have pretty much been fixed. And I must say, things have changed immensely for the better.
I found these really amazing levels for Super Mario 6

I found these really amazing levels for Super Mario 64, and Bioshock...

It also seems like people are designing maps that are more friendly towards LBP's shitty controls, by focusing on solving obstacles, rather than jumping on narrow platforms.
Considering how awesome the game is, it is not too surprising. Congrats Media Molecule!!
Jim, I played your level and had no clue what was going on but I was still laughing the whole time. You should definitely try your hand at another one.
I'm close to publishing my first level. Getting the aesthetics right and breathing life into my work is taking a lot longer than I would like. Not to mention that the thermometer is getting close to the breaking point :(
This is fantastic news. I've been working on throwing my hat into the ring with an Anthony Burch-friendly narrative set of levels. I'm thinking the next million levels are going to be a something special.
One of the few games I 100% applaud on the ps3. Game deserves all the praise it deserves for being something that actually somewhat makes me want a ps3.
is it easy to find good user created levels now? i haven't played the game in almost half a year, and would love to pick it up again if it is actually easy to find things that aren't total garbage.
That's really good news. And to be honest, I expected it to reach that amount a long time ago. You probably know how much I love the game so I'll skip that for now.
I can't wait to see what kind of things MediaMolecule has in store for us. Not the PSN store that is. Or maybe kind of. But I mean for LittleBigPlanet 2 or whatever game that is going to be. Everything those guys and girls do is awesome. Remember those tiny billboards? That was such a great idea. All the small things too. The fact that they name every update of the game after a particular kind of cheese shows to me what kind of people they are. Still don't know what I'm talking about? Check out their About Us. You'll see what I mean.
Congrats to the most awesome gamestudio in the world!
(except for Guerrilla Games but that's because I'm biased. They're situated not more than 10 mins away from me.)
I loved this game but have to agree with @thisissami it was so difficult to find decent levels most of them were just crap where they composed their favourite Castlevania soundtrack in "ding" noises or cheap ways of getting trophies. Not enough levels of the calibre you see in the ads and the story mode.
I've thought about getting this...but the time consumption would be ridiculous; it might end up taking the place of other daily activities, i.e. going to the bathroom and eating.
Also for the people that can't find any good levels.
Check out Sci-fi World.
The 3rd one to be precise. Shipero pointed it out to me the other day and he was right for saying it was cool. That level is perfect. There is nothing wrong with it to begin with, which is kind of unique in LBP. But the opening sequence is the best I've ever seen. So do yourself a favor and play that level if you haven't already.

Only kidding. That's great for them. It's just a shame about only half are half decent levels.
