Despite a Sony executive confirming LittleBigPlanet 2 a few days ago, the company has officially denied his words, stating that no LBP sequel has been announced. Of course, it's not a straight denial that the game exists, but for right now, we're to assume it's not happening until further notice.
"As demonstrated recently at GDC, LittleBigPlanet has been shown as an example of how an existing game could benefit from PlayStation Move Motion Controller support," explains a party-pooping Sony rep. "This is not a confirmation of LittleBigPlanet 2, and we do not have any announcements to make about the LittleBigPlanet franchise,"
So, nothing to see here. I will still be surprised if we never see a LittleBigPlanet 2 in the future, though. Sony was so keen on turning that into a flagship franchise, and that didn't really happen. It's not like Sony to ever throw in the towel if at first it doesn't succeed, so I we ought to expect much more from LBP in the coming years.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Really? I mean I know VG Chartz is usually full of BS, but they estimate the first game sold 3.14 million copies. That's pretty solid for a new IP...
Both games are also strong critical successes, how exactly are they not part of a "flagship franchise"?
They sold pretty well, yeah, but they never became this big face of Sony was hoping for. I mean, Kratos is still seen as the system's defacto leading man. There were all these plans for possible TV shows and merchandise and stuff, but it never seemed to take off.
is it Helgast or Helghast?
i dunno, you know who i'm talking about.
People: YAY LBP2!
Sony: Sorry, no LBP2.
People: Aw.
*three months later*
Sony: Kidding. LBP2!
helghast...
When I think Sony, I don't really think of a particular character... Kratos, Sackboy, Helghast... Solid Snake? SNAAAAAAAAAKEEKAAAAAAAAAAANS.
I'd buy LBP I'd they allowed you to tweak gravity or change sackboy's physics a bit. I hate that damn jump.
They'll just make a game similar in theme to LBP1, call it LBP2, but try to make it non-overlapping in terms of content so they can still milk LBP1. maybe a LBP version of 3D Dot Games Heroes
"Won't happen for awhile. Why would you even need a real "sequel"? Because you are eager to find out about the next thrilling chapter in... umm... sackboy's story? "
Why would you even need a real "sequel" to Super Mario? Because you are eager to find out about the next thrilling chapter in... umm.... Mario's Story?
In other words.. I either have no idea what a real "sequel" means, or don't understand why you'd only have to be interested in Sackboys story in order to want one.
Goddamn, Snake is so cool!
you didn't check what heavely sword or little big planet sold before you said that, did you?
Maybe it doesn't get media coverage, but it gets gamer cred, and isn't that what matters?
Even if this is not the plan, it's probably a good idea.
"There were all these plans for possible TV shows and merchandise and stuff, but it never seemed to take off."
