Little girl responds to O'Reilly, Bill acts like idiot
Dick McVengeance12.11.2006 9:45 (635 day(s) ago) 48 comments

Well, Bill O'Reilly is now resorting to responding to peoples' youtube videos about him in order to generate content for the O'Reilly Factor. While I would've liked to see the entire "discussion" that O'Reilly had with the child advocate, but I doubt any of it related to video games. Faith covered the original bit on this earlier , so check it out for the whole story.

Sadly, this really isn't even worth going into for something like Weekend Reading, since everyone who reads this site knows that video games don't cause violence. I suggest Summa goes on O'Reilly defending video games. I would love to see the two of them duke it out. I'd actually watch it. Check out the girl's original video after the jump.

Oh, and my favorite quote from GamePolitics' comments:

"I must say, that was the most adorable response to an O’Reilly argument in the history of responses to an idiot. This video, however, was also the stupidest response in the history of an idiot arguing with a child." - noman

I think I'm going to have to agree on the fact that the video is a little weird. Unless all those movies with the super intellectual and sarcastic children are true, I'm going to assume that this kid has no idea what she's talking about, and is just reading the words off a note card or emulating what her parents/guardians are saying.

However, no one is allowed to agree with anything O'Reilly says, so... OMG MOR O'RILLY BULLSHT LOL!

It's actually an advertisement for a band, I believe. That's what some of the GP people were saying.

Watch the end of the original video. There's a link to the band's website. So, yeah, on some level it's an advertisement, but that's not to say the creator wasn't trying to get his point across. It's just funny that O'Reilly has resorted to bashing YouTubers. Sounds like JT's daily routine of googling their name and bashing any site that comes up.

I don't see how raising a child to believe in what this little girl is saying is any worse than raising a child to believe in Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, or the tooth fairy. While the girl was obviously being coached to say these things, when it comes down to the core of things, how is this different than singing Christmas songs or even the pledge? Does freedom of speech not apply to minors? I know I'm getting too deep (with a crowd that agrees with me no less) but it just sickens me that people (like Bill O' and co) are so unwilling to look at things reflectively.
deanhatescoffee's Avatar

And since it's just an ad for a band anyway, *probably* meaning that the girl is nothing more than an actor, Bill O should STFUAJPG. lol

O'Reilly is a sack of shit. After watching the little girl go off about all this stuff, I expected Bill O'Reilly to rebuff her or something. Instead..."Is this child abuse?" Give me a fucking break. The video was disturbing, and I totally disagree with the parents, however, to show this video for the sole purpose of calling it child abuse, that's not news. But you know, increasingly, CNN and Fox News aren't news channels but opinion channels.

You know, FAR worse things happen to children every day, but I don't see Bill O'Reilly offering any assistance or sympathy to them. OO HE'S AN ASS. My two least favorite people on the planet...Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, that fat fuck. ANYWAY, I'm done.

Careful video editing, strong vocabulary, false translations, confusiong- all are his weapons of mass hysteria. He's like my Idol for being so manipulative but i hate him to death. I bet his favorite video game is Black and White so he can go around fucking with the little people as a giant cow.

The funniest part is when Wendy Murphy so-called "Child Advocate" hears the bleeped out "ass" and her eyes get really wide. This only illustrates how completely out of touch these fanatics are that they would equate this with child abuse. Their own kids are probably surfing through their parents' porn files and they don't have a clue.

Second, these same fanatics (often religious) don't have any trouble conditioning their kids to hate gays or fear "thugs" (AKA non-whites). Anyone who wants to see actual child abuse in the name of religion needs to rent Jesus Camp.

Also, how can O'Reilly expect to be taken seriously when he opens his segment with a screenshot of the Terminator and calls this commentary "Rise of the Machines?"

Finally, how many children in Iraq have been killed by the neo-cons and how many children in THIS nation could have been assisted by the $500 billion we've flushed away in Iraq?

We're up to our necks in carnage in the Middle East and Bill O'Reilly is bitching about YouTube, MySpace, the rise of cyborgs from the future, and Pac Man.

What a tool.

The scariest thing is the implied threat of violence made by the "child advocate" against the child. She's saying "someone will hunt this child down for her incindiery remarks."

That's the neo-cons acknowledging their base consists of McVeighs, crusaders, and abortion clininc bombers.

Yes, O'Reilly's a pompous ass and many of the points the child brings up are good points. But the video is friggen stupid. You just don't use a child that way. If the person who wanted to get this message out there is too much of a pussy to set their own ass in front of the camera they should STFU. You don't use a child this way. Is it child abuse? I don't know, but it's pretty weak.

I think the question really comes down to advertisement vs. propaganda - where is the line? Let's change the YouTube video to ... a Hitler speech. Or a jihad speech. Or a "Darfur's got it right" speech. We'd be up in arms, right? So, is this an advertisement for a band or political propaganda, or both? And how far can you use kids in your propaganda. Kids as actors are fine. Kids as propagandists makes this a little more sticky.
hanjo's Avatar

it's a cute little girl and i definitely like her (parents') opinions - there's plenty of other kids that are brainwashed by the right-wing propaganda of their parents, so who is crying for these poor kids being hugged for a picture by some conservative wankers to win votes?

i personally would surely be less ashamed when i'm grown up for being the star in such a web-video than having my picture in a pr-campaign for some conservative prick.

Okay setting aside religion's strong historical role of population control, there is one problem here. We sit around as gamers all the time crying about people like Jack Thompson and Bill O'Reilly or Sen. Leiberman when they talk about violence and other problems attributed with video games.

Then in response, somebody out there dresses their child up and gets her to read a rather disturbing diatribe attacking the religious right in our country. The true problem with all of this is that due to the youth of America, or at least those of us between 18-30 not actually ever voting, the people who set the standards for our country are those religious folks.

So instead of handing the so called moral majority even more ammunition, perhaps another tack is needed to debate these topics. We as gamers seem more than willing to feed the stereotypes they feed on, just look at all of the violence that occurred with the PS3 launch. You really think the people who truly call the shots will ever take a gamer, much less a non-voter's positions seriosuly? Perhaps another approach is needed.

I sure as hell wouldn't want my children to be delving into such 'worldly' situations at that age. She should be playing with barbies and stuff...not pumping left wing or right wing bullshit. The show is a charade though...but if you actually watch Fox News...you already know that and take it for what it is. For all of you that actually think Bill is a 'news' anchor, just wow. It's a glorified talk show that focuses on current events.

anyway, both sides (if you can call them that) are way off base. I wish that this parent(s) would show more restraint on what they expose the daughter to. Its this shit that causes unnecessary exposure and crackdowns to stuff i'd rather not lose.

i doubt any 'parent' on here actually agrees with what these people did.

You know, a lot of people on here think it's extremely twisted to have a little girl reading off biased liberal opinions, but to be honest it's no more twisted than it is when kids are spouting off Jesus shit forced down their throats by their parents. Sure, this little girl is too young to be talking about the evils religion introduces into society, but I think it makes a good point, as many parents have no problem forcing shit that is just as heavily political down their children's throats as long as it is in line with their religious beliefs.

Why would it be more acceptable to see a girl saying "if you accept Jesus into your heart you will go to heaven when you die" than it is to see one saying "religion has caused the genocide of nations"? Hell, at least we KNOW the second statement is true. If she was my kid, I wouldn't raise a daughter of mine like this, I'd let her enjoy her childhood and leave political shit for when she's older, but all in all, the only reason this is in any way "shocking" is because it doesn't fit with the happy christian views Fox endorses. This just goes to show that right wingers aren't the only ones who can force their kids to spout off their views, and until christians stop insisting on forcing their children to accept religion, any of them that criticize this video is a hypocrite.
Im OK's Avatar
Im OK at 12/11/2006 21:21

Original video: The little girl totally sounded like she was reading cue-cards the whole time, despite how animated she was. While I (mostly) agree with her (handlers') message, it was rather creepy.

The O'Reilly response: Pure, flat out, unadulterated fucktardedness. Which is expected, since it came from Bill O'Reilly after all. No, really... "child abuse"? I guess that means that similarly indoctrinating a child into any given religion is also "child abuse", then?

(SARCASM TAG TO COVER MY ASS)
But seriously though, there's obviously no way at all that religion could possibly be as hypocritical as that little girl says it is. What a load of bullshit, right?! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to hunt down that little girl and her family since she said "vile" things about religion and it pissed me off!!! And along the way, I'll firebomb some abortion clinics and kill some doctors in the name of Jesus, too.
