Little GBA Micro-looking emulator does it all photo

If you were into that whole emulation thing, you could jam all of your NOT-downloaded games onto this little device from Chinavasion. The Multi Platform Portable Gaming Entertainment System costs only $87, but will play NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, Neo-Geo, and certain Capcom CPS1 and 2 arcade system games from a Mini SD card. Add on MP3, MPEG4, FLAC, FLV and WMV compatibility and you've got a serious little machine.

Oh, and I love this blurb from the product page:

The number of video and audio formats you can play is simply amazing, making this unit way better than the equivalent "name brand" units on the market today for playing your favorite digital media files. Everyone has seen those media players on the marketplace today called "MP5 player", well this one is so good we should be calling it an MP10 player!

I'm sold! Here are some of the other features:

  • 4GB internal memory
  • 2.8 inch QVGA LCD screen
  • TV out
  • mini USB
  • FM Radio
  • voice recorder
  • e-book with text-to-speech
  • nicknamed Delightfully Small (DS) gaming entertainment system
Seriously? I love China!

They aren't called mp3 players because they play 3 different types of media, it's because that's the file format it supports. You can't go around calling things mp5, .mp5 is not a real file format yet. Anybody makes an mp5 player, they have me to answer to.

Stupid market speak aside, if I had more money I'd be ordering one right now. I've always wanted a convenient mini-Mega Man player (take that Powered up!)

This is awesome. Can you order in the US? And if so is this site legit? This is awesome, but not worth identity theft.

PSP Homebrew aside, this thing looks pretty cool. I do notice a disturbing lack of shoulder buttons. Or the picture is just crappy.

Anyways, yeah, PSP homebrew is more powerful, but this is a bit cheaper, as far as I know.

Anyways, I'm not gonna buy it, but its cool.

I've read reviews saying SNES and Genesis emulation doesn't work very well. Otherwise it looks pretty cool.

The DS can also emulate pretty much all of these systems. Don't know about CPS1/2, but there is a MAME port for the DS.

Well, yes, if it can do all that it's a great purchase..... to anyone who owns all their games in a Mini SD card format.

Newer gamers often don't like the older games, and those that do often only have them on cartridge and really can't be bothered downloading them or getting them on a Mini SD format. I understand that a device can't have 10 different types of slots for different formats, but I won't be buying this. I appreciate what they've done, but it's still too much effort on my part.

While it can play the games, I wonder what's the quality of the voice recorder and radio that comes with it - it's my experience that usually such additions aren't very good - I mean, the voice recorder in most mobile phones is terrible. That's not saying that this one is bad - I'm just wary of any product that tries to cram many, many things into a small space all at once.

@Korolev:

It has a USB port and 4gigs of internal memory .... so you don't need to have games on a mini SD

Like anything all you gotta do is plug it into your PC to get your roms on there. Roms that can be found and downloaded in seconds.

Doesn't really seem like a lot of effort.

@Korolev

You don't have to already have them on an SD card, just buy an SD card, plug it in to the system, then plug the system up to your computer through USB. I imagine its a drag and drop type of interface, like any flashdrive,or other portable media.

I'd really like one of these, but I might see what the mod community does with the DSi, if they can get a custom firmware on the system so you can run games out of the SD card slot....then I'll just do that.

It's a good idea.

Idea being key, it needs to be executed well to be worthwhile.
That doesn't look very well made.

First of all, the headphone jack is in a really bad spot. Secondly, that capital "B" in GB better not be a typo and be really mean GigaBytes and not GigaBits. Lastly, is there gameboy support?

I'm tempted to order but I want more color options.

I've tried a number of Google search terms, nothing is bringing up a review.

Please link us to any reviews you might have. I'd love to know how this thing's 16bit emulation compares to how well PSP emulators run.

Yeah, my PSP can do this but the performance isn't exactly stellar and neither is the battery life. I need reviews. If this can give me a smoother frame rate + longer battery life it could totally be worth it.

As a person who wants to have style in his electronics, the look of it is great. The features sound promisng too and as a person who has zero interest in the portable gaming scence, rather preferring his PS3 and emulators on the pc, this lloks like a real purchase for me.

As soon as some reviews roll in, and if the device can stand the test of time and not break a week after purchase (it is a knock off), represting value for money, I'll order one.

They SHIP to the UK!!! YES. :)

Had I known in advance that I could either get this or a PSP, I would have gotten this. Because as it stands, emulation is the only reason my PSP is still around.

my ds emulates all these systems but the video and text to speech option sound awsome. but mainly i'd want it for better snes sega support because the ds emulators don't work well. interesting to see how bad it works on this system.

this would be a great add on when i get a dsi and loss gba support. and sounds easier than hacking a psp which to me sounds like alot.

but if someone hacks dsi properly......

I want one just so I can play Megaman 1-7, Final Fantasy 3, and Shining Force wherever I want. Unfortunately, my PSP is a 3000 so homebrew isn't ready for it yet.

Anybody know if it comes with a classic Gameboy emulator?

This is a Dingoo. Look it up, they're pretty neat. My friend has one-- NES and GBA emulation is spot on, perfect. SNES emulation runs at 30 fps though, opposed to 60. Frameskip makes it very playable though.
