Here's a trailer for a game that someone in the comments of this article first brought up. I thought about the best way to phrase the title of this post, but in the end, the name of the game itself says it all.
Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! is a light novel and manga series that Namco Bandai has seen fit to adapt to the PSP as a visual novel. Despite the title, you aren't actually these little girls' father. They are your sister's kids, and in fact, only one is her biological daughter. Whatever, though. You can cut it however finely you want; it's obvious that the humor is derived from the incestuous and borderline pedophilic undertones.
The special edition even comes with a bonus "Sleep with Dad" pack. Make of that what you will. Does it bother me? Nope! I can only laugh. Cultural differences: what a riot!
Tony Ponce (aka megaStryke) is a culturally confused, Canadian-born Puerto Rican who grew up in Japan and South Florida ... yet can only speak English. He specializes in writing features and maintaining an immaculate goatee. Likes: Any and all things related to Mega Man, Contra, Castlevania, 2D, PB&J sandwiches, applesauce, and candy corn.
Meet the rest of the team
In all seriousness, until I actually play the game I'll reserve judgment. It's a PSP title so nothing raunchy will happen obviously. Hopefully this is just a marketing ploy to target the Niche demographic (I can't believe this is a viable demographic) and there is a bit more substance than just this stupidity. As of right now though it doesn't look like it has much more to offer than a game like OreImo.
I wonder if Japanese gamers complain about on disc DLC but instead of skins and weapons they are mad that they aren't getting incest for the purchase price.
Meh, this is just Sony trying to get the galge market on the Vita the same way they got it on the PSP. Extremely few (if any) will actually make it outside Japan.
I was actually the one who brought it up in that past article.
I really don't know know how to react to this game. I want to say it's funny, but I've seen funnier games (like that pigeon dating seem that was posted not to long ago). I want to say this is disturbing, but their are way worse games than this. This game kind of falls into a grey area for me.
Bronies, let's love and tolerate the piss outta Janklogs.
This is also an anime launching in January, which looks to be pretty funny. Can't wait to see if they genuinely milk the comedic potential out of the set-up, and hey, maybe Aksys will give this one a shot. Who knows with them...
This makes me want to create my own civilization thats big thing is walking on our hands wearing Rainbow gowns to appease our gods. And have all of our video games have its characters be upside down rainbow people, talking and battling.
That way I could read at some point "Oh those silly rainbow people, this is another weird game that is not coming to our lands"
Then again, sleep with dad could just be the litteral meaning of the translation. It's common that daughters share beds with their parents in japan, after all
I would...probably buy this if it came here to be honest. I'd like to get more Visual Novels here on portables though I've only really played the mystery variety.
Japan has such a freaking dichotomy going. The men work themselves to death, sometimes literally, and when they take a break with some escapism they just dive straight into the muff of a virtual 12-year-old girl.
I seriously cannot convey how frustrated and disillusioned I feel with the country I used to love so much as a kid.
I don't think this is quite as bad as some of these commments make it sound. The protagonist is close in age to the girls, and they're not related.
I'm not denying there's taboo innuendo there but I think whoever gets a kick out of this is more guilty of whatever moral transgression you seem to brand this game with than light novel material itself.
Actually, Holmes put it in much better words than I did:
"Now before you grumps start bashing the game for glorifying the lust for teenage girls, remember that this game may not be made for or about you. If you're 30 and you want to hump a 16 year old, that's trouble. If you're just 14 and you've got the hots for a 16 year old, then you're more or less within your rights (though please boys and girls, consider abstinence, or at least wrap that wang before you do that thang).
Anyway, if it's OK for western games to glorify hiring then murdering hookers, hog tying and dragging innocent strangers to their deaths, and doing all sorts of screwed up crap, then why is it so bad for the Japanese to make games about being a horny teenage dude? I know two wrongs don't make a right, but is it really so wrong to be a hormonal dude? I just wish that more developers made horny games that weren't so objectifying to women. After all, sexy doesn't need to mean sexist. "
The problem arises when in order to be marketable you have to design your characters and situations in games that are *not* about being a horny teenager (or, for what it's worth, when you have to put guns and violence in a game which is not about running over hookers), and of that I'm seeing an awful lot coming from Japan recently, it's like they're trying to one- up each other on the subject at hand. All we can do is ignore it and walk past, or, by all means, roll with it. *eyes game neptune mk2 box suspiciously*. One moe game is charming, 200 is terrifying (I would be even more terrified if billions of military shooters would start taking over the market and... oh DAMN!)
So since no one here actually understands, this game is based off a manga called "Papa No Iukoto O Kikinasai" you can read the first 5 chaps here http://www.mangachapter.net/6078/papa-no-iukoto-o-kikinasai.html. Anyway the story revolves around 3 young girls who lost there mother and father in an accident and runway to their young uncle in order not to be separated. The Young man in question is then forced by circumstance to mature in order to become a proper guardian/father to these girls. There is some Ecchi but nothing sexually overt. The young man is in college btw.
Yea, the game has a WTF title (especially the bonus pack), but judging by the trailer it looks like it's just galge business as usual: a hapless man in his teens or early 20s suddenly has to live with teenage girls due to some stupid-ass contrived reasons. Sure, the incest undertone is fucked up, but like how people who enjoy shooting dudes in games don't necessary enjoy shooting dudes in real life, people who can enjoy this game aren't necessary incestuous either. To most players, these are just cute anime girls to gawk at. Unless the game goes too far (which I doubt since it's on PSP), I don't have a problem with it.
And let's not pass judgment on an entire country based on one aspect of their pop culture. Many Japanese find some of these things just as fucked up as we do. I certainly hope other countries don't think everyone in America loves Teen Mom and Jersey Shore.

@Tony Ponce
It seems to be listed as shounen manga (which could be wrong, i dunno) so if thats true I will stick by assessment that very little if anything truly fucked up really happens in it.
It's typical fanservice manga. Nothing will come of it. He'll end up with the non-child female character (Raika). This isn't Yosuga no Sora, or even Usage Drop (Post time skip).

Fuck. You made me spit water at my screen, goddammit. +1
Winner.

Though I'm saddened that theirs no way in hell they'll be hitting the US shores.
I'm surprised that one romance game meant for girls is coming over here (totally picking that up by the way)
God damn I just love my PSP

dibs on that short-haired-with-blue-ribbon girl!

The protagonist is in his college years. The eldest of the three daughters is 14. The gap is a little wide.

One girl is 10, the other around preschool age. Reassessment?
