Lips microphone won't be compatible with Rock Band or Guitar Hero at launch photo

As evidenced by the all-too-confusing Rock Band /Guitar Hero peripheral compatibility debacle, gamers loathe being forced to own multiple sets of plastic instruments when they shouldn't need to.

Speaking with Lips creator Keiichi Yano, MTV Multiplayer found out that the karaoke game's mic will not be compatible with Guitar Hero or Rock Band, at least initially.

Why, you ask? The Lips microphone is wireless and contains an accelerometer, which is apparently reason enough for it to not function with those other titles out of the box.

Yano says that a patch from both Harmonix and Neversoft could remedy the situation, though. As a cheap bastard who doesn't own a Rock Band mic and kind of wants to get Lips, I would greatly appreciate the gesture, guys.

It can't be that hard to whip up a quick patch, can it?

But will the microphone for RB/GH work on Lips?

Wait, why do THEY have to make a patch? Wouldn't the patch have to be for the Lips game? I'd think the Lips developers would be the ones to have make the patch, and it'd be the others who would have to allow them to do so. That was the deal when Activision was blocking Harmonix from released a patch for GH3 Guitar compat for PS3 anyways...

Oh lawl, I'm reading backwards. Yeah, I was thinking the GH/RB mics wouldn't work with this. Which is a valid question.

Also not sure why you would need this mic to work with their games?

I don't get it. Why would the added functionality of an accelerometer which has no part in RB/GH affect the microphone functionality?

And just why pray tell does the microphone need an accelerometer in the first place?

I hope the RB microphone works with Lips, because I'm kind of looking forward to this game.

Weird how the thing needs a patch to work with RB/GH. I mean isn't the thing using Microsoft's proprietary wireless tech to connect to the 360. It's the main reason why the Les Paul guitar worked with Rock Band on the 360 but not the PS3.
