Lionhead will patch Fable Pub Games photo

A developer patching a broken game is not exactly a new concept. Fixing a broken game that is designed to give players access to more materials in another game is a totally different scenario. If you didn’t know, there is a pretty nasty exploit in the Fortune’s Tower Pub Game that lets players make an infinite amount of money. This money can then translate to Fable 2 and therefore get you the snazziest outfits, booze, hookers, and houses in the game. Recently CVG was perusing the Lionhead development blog and found that there is a patch coming to fix the issue.

I’m a bit disappointed, but I suppose I have a few more days to amass my fortune in Fable 2. I’ve been too busy with a few other games to even download these things, but I’m excited at the prospect of not having to kill countless Hobbes and sell meat to buy a house. You have a few more days to cheat your eyes out, so make sure you do it in the near future if you want to make it big in Fable 2.

Lionhead will patch and I will play the game not signed into live, for I will teach them a lesson (in my mind) for leaving such a glitch in the game.

At first I was like: "Wow. Great. Some dude who has nothing better to do, is going to ruin one of the only games im seriously losing sleep over."

Then I played Fortunes Tower and Spinner box. F those games. F'em right in ol' Peteys bum-hole. I've used the cheat, and I'm not ashamed- but I've not gone anywhere near the amount most people have (40k in contrast to leader boards 1m+). Hipocritical? Yes. But I don't consider it so bad when compared to the alternative, in retrospect; which, by the way, was competely broke due to a broken game.

What would have been smart of Lionhead is- if youve amassed a certain amount of gold then you're waylaid more often by penniless, itemless thieves and hobbes. You may have your money- but now you have more to contend with, it might be fun.

I'm not proud of using the glitch, but I only did it so I can get all the items (which I'm currently at 14/15). I always wanted to start the money from 0 Gold like it's meant to be played, IMO. What's fun about starting a game with 2,000,000 gold?

I can't decide if I'll invest all of my money in real estate so if I really need gold later on in the game I can get it, or if I should just throw it all away at the start of the game.

And even with the patch, people can just delete the patch from their harddrive and play offline and use the glitch, as covah just stated.

I've amassed 2 million gold but have no intention of giving it to my character from the get-go. I'll hand it over at endgame, because if it's anything like the first Fable, grinding for gold at the end if going to be tedious as hell.

I was at first against the glitch, but you know what? It's a game. You want to use it? Go right ahead.

And hell...if I have to play Spinnerbox tournaments where I have no control at all over what I may win (at least in the other two, you have to use the ol' noggin a bit), I'm going to use the glitch to win back my entry fee. I mean, c'mon...I'm in the top 5, and then suddenly, some CPU player comes from behind and bumps be out on my last spin.

Sure, the entry fee is a fraction of what you can potentially earn, but it's still a rip-off and I want it back, should I lose.

I'm 2000 gold in debt. But I don't know the exploit, and I don't want to know/use it because it'd ruin both games for me.

I'm in the minority here but I don't see why Lionhead needs to patch the game. For those who want money for THEIR game, go right ahead...cheat. For those who want to play legit, don't cheat! Why close one avenue of amassing wealth for players who are essentially doing so for themselves.

I mean Fable isn't an MMO or something that requires an player economy...so why the fuss?

Guess I'll be playing this offline.

@Shael - I'm guessing their closing the gap for those that want to experience a more balanced online co-op mode where the economy isn't designed for fucktons of gold unless you've worked for it.

Typo: I'm guessing they're* closing the gap for those who* want....

@Shael

I think you might be missing the point. Yeah, you might be playing the game with money you won by cheating, and yeah, you might be ok with that. But you wont be playing that game for long- because theres no challenge.

And from a buisness standpoint, you not playing a game for more than a month that took them well over 5 years to make, is a slap in the face. And all because of a glitch.

I refuse to hax for I fear it will ruin the fun-factor of said game.

@Quantso - Well, from a business standpoint, which is where the publishers would be most concerned, selling a game at full price would be their primary concern.

The only reason they'd want customers to continue playing is for them to retain the prospect of selling them DLC, or perhaps pointing at XBL figures as a boasting point to share holders.

@Arttemis - I agree with you to a point. I guess what I'm trying to get at is: Fable 2 probably wont be like Braid, where the fact that you can never die means nothing in the face that the puzzles are what makes the game challenging. Fable 2 will have an economy and based on that economy, you will or wont be able to buy better weapons and armor to finish the game. Meaning- the challenge in Fable 2 is circumvented mostly by money; which is a joke at this point.

Buisness-wise the game may not be as appealing to many. I'm sure people will still buy it. I'm sure people will go along buying everything in site, but im sure it wont rate (either on peoples minds, or possibly on reveiw sites), as high as it could have. Much like a game thats too short- you kind of feel robbed.

I'm sure people will go along buying it sight unseen, but im sure it generally wont rate (either on peoples minds, or possibly on reveiw sites), as high as it could have. Theres less of a challenge- its possible it wont last as long. Much like a game thats too short- you kind of feel robbed.

I still have to unlock the five-star rating game and get first place in it. Hopefully I can do that before it gets patched.
