Lionhead Studios site updates recap photo

Ever since Thursday the Lionhead Studios website has been updating with a very interesting countdown. Each day the site has updated with a new historical figure on its entrance page and a quote from that figure. Those going to the site could vote up or down on the quote and depending on how they voted the main site would look different. It's pretty clearly a countdown to Gamescom, but for what we have no idea. It seemed a bit silly to update you every day on the change, but a midway recap should be good.

Here's what you've missed if you haven't been paying attention:

  • On Friday the site featured French revolutionary Maximilien Robespierre with the quote, "Terror is only justice: promt severe and inflexible; it is then an emanation of virtue; it is less a distinct principle than a natural consequence of the general principle of democracy, applied to the most pressing wants of the country."
  • On Saturday the site featured Abraham Lincoln, who I hopefully don't have to introduce. He was quoted with, "Be not deceived, revolutions do not go backward."
  • Finally, today (Sunday) we received a message from Greek philosopher Aristotle who says, "He who is to be a good ruler must have first been ruled."

So that is what we have so far. Four men, all involved with revolutions, all controversial figures of their times and all laying down some controversial quotes. In fact Robespierre's quote is indeed discussing terrorism in a good light. I'm not sure where Aristotle's quote came from, but it was most likely influenced by Plato's writings on the philosopher king, who he argued was the best kind of ruler, as I believe that was one of the tenants of said king. I don't know about you, but Peter Molyneux, the king of hype and ruler of Lionshead Studios, has worked his magic on me. I'm really excited.

However, if all of this talk about revolution is actually referring to the "revolution" of interactive experiences with Natal there will be a reckoning.

I never thought I'd read a DToid article mention a countdown and not slam it somehow.

Considering the site though it's understandable. Looking forward to the announcement.

ALSO, Che Guevara initially appeared on Thursday, saying, "At the risk of seeming ridiculous, let me say that the true revolutionary is guided by by a great feeling of love"

Isn't Fable 3 meant to involve being king/queen of Albion? Not that I want that, I never want to see another Fable game.

Curiously with the first two being Che and Robespierre I'm surprised they picked Lincoln and not Jefferson Davis or John Brown.

My hope is a new Populous or Magic Carpet but my jaded gaming experience says Black & White 3. After four strike outs of hype it's hard to get excited about this personally.

I doubt it's going to be a fantasy type game. I'm thinking a big, open world game where you lead a revolution. Either way, I'm looking forward to the launch. I quite like Molyneux. I'd rather a game designer aim high and miss then aim low and succeed.

I'm thinking Black and White.
I've lost all hope in Lionshead though.

You know, the idea of Natal and Black and White 3 work as much for me as Black and White 3.

Black and White 3 for the 360 with Natal use.
It's a possibility, but i don't see it happening, i'm hoping for a new IP.
Anyone else is voting on the quotes? I am.

While Ropespierre was indeed advocating Terror (not terrorism) in that quote, the meaning of that word in the context of the French Revolution, circa 1789, doesn't have much to do with Al Qaeda and the IRA. Pedantic mode off.

OH SHI-

I forgot about Milo. Whatever it is, it's probably disappointing either way.

Aristotle's quote doesn't refer to Plato's idea in so far as it comes from his own work on politics, which disagrees with Plato in several points.

The quote itself pertains to the treatment of children by their parents, since the man of the household is akin to its ruler for him, and he had devised very specific ideas about what the right upbringing is.

I just had to post on here again to say that today, we get an image and a quote from EMMA FUCKING GOLDMAN. Seriously. Most badass woman ever, aside from Mary "Mother" Jones. Do some anarcho/labor movement homework, kiddies.
