Lionhead records 370,000 words of dialog for Fable 2 photo

This is going to please those who loved Oblivion, but hated the fact that a cast of hundreds was voiced by about five people repeating themselves -- Fable 2's vocal recordings have wrapped up after a massive undertaking that saw nearly 38 hours of dialog recorded by a large and varied cast that collectively produced 370,000 words for the game. Wow.

Over 45 actors aged 8 to 80 provided the voices of over 200 speaking characters in London. The UK firm Side was responsible for bringing the project together. Side ran the recordings in two studios for three months, working to make sure that all the characters sounded like they belonged in Fable 2's world.

"The sheer amount of dialog in Fable 2 meant this was a massive project," stated Peter Molyneux. "Side rose to this challenge in a professional and efficient way. They have done a great job for us."

So, hopefully this means there won't be cases of characters saying "I've fought mud crabs that were fiercer than you," over and over again.

Riiiight Mr. Molyneux. Forgive me if im still skeptical but knowing your track record you might cut 150 thousand words of dialog on the final product anyway, seeing as how you removed over half the features you promised and ranted about that ended up being useless.

Seriously this guy should work with Sony PR to add to the already massive hype factory they have going there.

Is 37,000 words a lot? Madden has a lot of words too, but by the end of a season you've heard the same thing a million time already.

Meh, voice acting in a RPG. Never needed if you asked me but I guess if it has to be done, do it right. So I'm glad to here there is at least some quality effort going in to this.

Hrmm, maybe this is worth looking at.. assuming, of course, that it eventually hits the PC.

So, 45+ voice talents pulling off 200 characters... doesn't that mean there's an average of 4 characters per voice?

It might not be as bad as Oblivion or the first Fable, but it might pull off a moment or two similar to them still. You know, where a character is talking to himself, or one character leads you to another character with the same voice.

We know your tricks Peter!!

Also didn't Molyneux said he was gonna stay quiet about Fable 2 to avoid overhyping it?

Now I hope those 370k words are worth listening to. I know nearly every one of Planescape: Torment's estimated 800,000 words was worth reading.

In all fairness, Fable was a good game, just overhyped into a whole different dimension. Likely Fable 2 will also be a good game that suffers from letting people down because they get caught up in a hurricane of bullshit and expect a messenger of the divine to kiss them on the cheek before they put the disc in.
