Let it forever be known that November of 2011 was a month book-ended by Lineage II free-to-play posts. On November 1st it was announced that Lineage II was going "Truly Free" and now that day is finally here. Yes, you can finally download the Lineage II client and play it, without any account restrictions, for free. For more information on how this works and where to download, head to the official website.
Perhaps the most interesting part of this update is the "Path to Awakening" website. If you log in with your character, this will act as your "companion" to leveling up. If you choose to do so you will be occasionally rewarded with items as you meet certain level requirements. I think this will be a tremendous help for the influx of new players that Lineage II is about to see.
Will this website, along with the new content and lack of traditional free-to-play restrictions be enough for you to download the client? Or will you stick to other free-to-play MMOs like City of Heroes or DC Universe Online?

Thats pretty much the same thing for me. Tried a few free mmo's and I have yetto really carry on with one after I started it.
The game's gorgeous, has great art design, great monsters, lots of perks... it's worth playing, and it's been around long enough to get a ton of fixes and improvements.
That and it's back-up material is worth viewing on it's own.
I've ridden the F2P train and while it is enjoyable ..... its typically an abusive relationship at best.
I might check it out ...... I mean it did look like a decent game back when it was P2P, but the Whole ZOMG LOOKZ AT UZ WEEZ HAZ GONE F2P!!1!Oneone!!11one!!! ...... has really lost its sparkle factor.
The Steam sales inbetween are to blame for that, I guess...
Oh well, back to Cyrodill now.
