Limited Edition Mass Effect only available online through EB Games/GameStop photo

We have some sad news: If you wish to pick up a copy of the Mass Effect Limited Collector's Edition, you'll have to avoid retail at all costs. It appears the package will only be available online through EB Games/GameStop when it launches this November.

The package -- which was revealed earlier in the month -- contains all kinds of fancy goodies for your the Mass Effect fanatic in us all. From our original announcement post

Those who shell out $69.99 for the Mass Effect Limited Collector's Edition will snag a book, Galactic Codex: Essentials, which will presumably be a streamlined race, character, and story index. You may or may not be able to get that information here, but don't tell anyone. Additionally, the package also ships with an art book, A Future Imagined, and a 2nd DVD with exclusive Mass Effect videos (Art of Mass Effect, Interactive Storytelling of Mass Effect).

While we're sure this version will be available used when people trade it in at your local retailer for crack money, we just wanted to give you a heads up. Pre-order now to avoid disappointment.

I wasn't going to get it, but it's a shame when you have to tack on an extra $5 to the cost of a game because you can only get it online.

Does the Special Edition come with facial expressions?

I think you misunderstood, this isn't saying that the CE:Mass Effect is exclusive to GameStop, you can get still the Collectors edition at other stores. It's just saying that GameStop isn't selling it at store. Kotaku even went out of their way to make that clear.

From Kotaku

"So as not to cause any confusion, EB Games isn't the only place you can get the Mass Effect Limited Edition, you just won't be able to get in their stores. Whether or not it will be available at other brick and mortar locales remains to be seen."

Unsurprising? I just find it funny how often this is the case, when that store HATES selling new games, because they make no obscene profit on them.

Good thing I buy normal editions of games, because I don't care about the extra crap.

You don't really have to put pants on to go to the store either. 'No shirt, no shoes, no service' doesn't say anything about wearing pants.

Journalism is not your forte, sir (oh, I forget, you can get away with disinformation by saying you're a "blogger.")

GREAT job. On the upside, at least you're not a real newsman... er, or newswoman? Hell, I can't tell. Just work on basic fact checking before you post nonsense next time. Posting other blogger info, contrary to current popular belief, is not legitimate new gathering.

I don't get it. The people who buy collectors editions are usually the people who buy games on the first day. So EBgames punishes them by making them wait a few days for their game to arrive or have the buyer spend an extra 7 bucks on express shipping?

Oh wait. It's EBgames. I get it.

So...again...why do you people hate GameStop?

They aren't punishing anyone, they aren't trying to screw you etc.

Get over yourselves. It's just a store.

@liqideos

They are trying to punish and screw you over.

#1 - They have the audacity to open up new games and take out the disc which in my mind automatically makes the game used.

#2 - They offer a service which no one competes in really which buys your games at a 75% reduce rate, then turn around and sell it for a insane profit.

#3 - Never once have I been in the store without being asked if I wanted to pre-order a game. Once is ok, but when I politely say no, don't fucking ask me why not or try and push another game on me.

There's more but I'll save it for a post or something.
