The debut trailer for Star Wars: The Clone Wars -- Lightsaber Duels features plenty of action, and we think you'll agree that it looks delectable. It's still early on, and LucasArts doesn't want to give too much away, but it was hard to stifle the anticipation of seeing the camera pan away -- just for a second -- to give us a shot of the Wiimote in action.

That shot never came; unfortunately, but it's still nice to see some of those familiar faces dueling through the Clone Wars, during their heyday. As history (and a few movies) has shown, not all of them are around to entertain us these days. Perhaps the Wii and DS will be remembered for capturing them in their time of glory. Or, as some have said, the games are going to disappoint fans on a monumental level due to a lack of one-to-one Wiimote swordplay. Nonsense! I think you know which side I'm on.

The lightsaber action looks fun. Have they said how you control the force powers? I hope its with the nunchuck like TFU will have.

Side note: I wish the new clone wars movie was just like the animated clone wars episodes... I dont care for this cartoonish cgi.

The CGI looks dated. Toy Story looks better. Hell, Jimmy Neutron looks better.

That kind of game is the reason I got a Wii in the first place!

lets just hope it doesn't fall into a waggle-fest like the previous 'swordfigthing'-games ( Bleach and that stupid ubisoft release title )

I'm cautiously optimistic. I like the cartoony look of the movie and the game and hope that LucasArts can find a way to make the game enjoyable. I'm not a huge fan of waggling the Wiimote all around and would actually prefer a No More Heroes approach; button presses for basic slashes and gestures or special attacks.

Am I the only one that doesn't care for a lightsaber Wii game? I mean, I just don't think it will be that fun.

I'm pretty sure that it's safe to drink the Kool-aid Cobra. How could you not want to play a lightsaber game?

Probably going to be Twilight Princess-y :( I don't really plan on being interested in it until they post the actual control scheme.

I wonder what it will be like controlling greivous- two saber controls? the nunchuck never seems as accurate as the wiimote-

Looks a little bit like Soul Calibur. Ironically, I think Soul Calibur is set to do lightsaber fighting a teensy bit better.

@entropyman

That's because the Nunchuk and Remote have different motion sensitive parts inside them, if I recall correctly.

If they do the controls right, I'll pick this up, and I'm not even a big Star Wars fan (the original series was awesome; the new one, not so much). And I'm still waiting for the day we get a 1:1 game --- I still think they could do it.

That was one of the LEAST impressive things I've ever seen. Do not want. I mean, we can fap all we want over the concept of a Wii lightsaber game, but it will never live up to what we expect. 1:1 Wiimote control is impossible, currently. Until they get it down, we'll never truly be satisfied. As it is, it just looks like a bunch of mostly-dull, repetitive waggle duels that will get old very quickly.

The art style is kinda lame, but if the gameplay is good I'm all for it. However, I really don't see the point in this game when the Lightsaber duels in the Wii version of Force Unleashed already look way better than this.

Looks horrible. Even if we're just talking graphics, why do videogames always add those horrible trails to sword swings? It looks cooler when it looks like a lightsaber from the movies, and they don't have trails.

And I'm dreading the movie/show/whatever it is. I loved Genndy's first two seasons (the 2D animated ones) but with him out, and with this ugly new style, I just can't imagine it being any good. I'm trying to be open-minded, but compare Genndy's Grievous from the show to the retarded Grievous in Lucas's movie. I love the old movies, I think the new ones got progressively worse, and I think the last time someone got Star Wars right was when Genndy did it in Clone Wars (2D).

What's wrong with the graphics? This is the Wii, people. I would expect more if we were talking about the Xbox 360 or PS3... but not this.

So what's your point? Just because it's on wii the graphics can suck?

There are wii games out there with good (decent?) graphics, so let's not pretend that it's not possible on this system.

This game, friend, has horrible graphics, which shows the laziness of the developers. Admit it.

As long as people continue to let developers get away with publishing crap on the wii, that's all we're going to get.

kiel at 06/22/2008 11:11
is it just me or does the wii promise so much and yet deliver so little? Its like the wii get all the developers the ps3 and 360 dont want.

That being said, i'll still go out and get this!

@jove9

Not at all. However, I just wanted people to make a fair comparision. Comparing the graphics to other Wii games is reasonable. Trying to have it go up against the 360 or PS3 just wouldn't be fair (like trying to compare the PS2 to the original Xbox).

Nintendo thumbed their nose at the graphics whore crowd, and this is what you end up with --- games that look good for the Wii. Doesn't make them any less fun, just not as pretty as what we would expect from the other guys.

Gameboi at 06/22/2008 11:56
I guess the PS2 vs. Xbox is a bad example, but the point I'm getting at is what each console brings to the table in terms of horsepower. As popular and as fun as the Wii may be, it (by Nintendo's own admission) was never meant to try and keep up with Sony and MS in terms of graphics. It's all about the Wiimote, and what it can add to the gameplay.

not to sure about this one... seems like a red-steel re-entry. I have to second what spitfire said about wishing it looked more like the actual samurai jack - styled animation of the cartoon movie...

that was great, this, .....
