Licensed songs in Wii Music revealed photo

The remote-rocking Wii Music was released in Japan today, enabling us to finally get a look at what songs will be the soundtrack to our ridiculous waggle performances. Game|Life says that 14 of the 50 included songs are licensed music, and we're guessing that the rest is made up of classical and Nintendo pieces.

Here's the list:

  • "Chariots of Fire" - Vangelis
  • "Daydream Believer" - The Monkees
  • "Every Breath You Take" - Sting
  • "I'll Be There" - Jackson 5
  • "I've Never Been to Me" - Charlene
  • "Material Girl" - Madonna
  • "Please Mr. Postman" - The Marvellettes
  • "September" - Earth, Wind and Fire
  • "Sukiyaki" - Kyu Sakamoto
  • "The Loco-Motion" - Little Eva
  • "Woman" - John Lennon
  • "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go" - Wham!
  • "Jingle Bell Rock" - Bobby Helms
  • "Do-Re-Mi" - Rogers and Hammerstein (from The Sound of Music)

Woah! Any game that has both Wham! and Vangelis in its tracklist has my attention.  "September" is my jam. The rest? Jesus, "Jingle Bell Rock" is included? That song is banned from my household.

What do you think of the licensed songs of Wii Music?

[cue dramatic running]

personally still holding out for motown hero. its like the vocal portion of rock band, but with DDR mats to make sure you and your background vocalists are moving in sync.

Chariots of Fire would be perfect for the Wii Fit jogging portion.

"Woman"??? Of all the possible Beatles/Lennon songs, they choose a turgid, late period mid-tempo ballad from Lennon's sappy phase?

"Every Breath You Take"? Nothing says "Nintendo Wii" like a song about obsessively stalking your ex-lover.

I freaking love Daydream Believer. (Blame that one having three older sisters who grew up in the 50s and 60s.) But that's still not going to get me to buy this piece of trash.

Now, if GH:WT or RB2 included the Monkees' Valerie, that would be a different story. (Yeah, listen to the guitar riff and the guitar solo to see if you think you could do it before you mock me.)
