Level-5 showing some DS love with Studio Ghibli photo

Studio Ghibli is a funny name, but what's not funny is the fact that it is working with Level-5 to create a brand new DS game called Ninokuni, roughly translated as The Another World. Actually, that might be funny as well, but we can't confirm that right now.

What we can confirm is that this is to be Level-5's tenth anniversary product and it's due out next year in HWAPAN! Here are even more details, as found in Famitsu:

  • Studio Ghibli is responsible for all the animation.
  • The game comes packed with a "Magic Master" book which is something the in-game main character also possesses. It contains information on magic crests and spell recipes and you'll need to refer to the book at various points during the game.
  • The title will also come to home consoles, but the platform is not decided.
  • Level-5 wants the handheld and console versions to offer something different so that those who own the DS version might have something of interest. The packaged book, however, would remain the same.

Scant but tantalizing details, I trust you'd agree. The inclusion of a book is a very simple idea, but one I must admit I really like. Flicking through a book as part of the game itself might seem tedious to some, but I really like it. If the book is well-made enough, it could add a subtle ARG-feel to the affair.

Approval gained!

I'm torn between my dislike of Ghibli and my love of Level 5.

Help me resolve my inner turmoil, Dtoid.

I don't own a DS, but it's nice to see Studio Ghibli get some love after Hayao Miyazaki's retirement (Or last I heard). Here's hoping his son gets better at making animation features, because I heard Hayao's son made a horrible first attempt.

^He's not retired, just released ponyo and he's working on the next one.

Will there be Totoro tickling with the stylus?

I'm pumped for this game, so long as the son doesn't muck it up if he's involved...his first film attempt WAS really bad. I hope the Magic Master book is a spell book or something cool like that.

Ghibli doing the animation is exciting, hope they make something for the 360.

@zeno
how... how could someone not like Ghibli? Do you have a black heart, cold as coal? This can be the only explanation.

@ HPV;

Woah, hold your horses, man. He could have only got his opinion after watching Princess Mononoke and/or Tales from Earthsea. Go easy on the fella.

Just hearing Studio Ghibli are involved with Level 5 is enough to warrant my complete attention. Keep me updated. O_O

Batthink: There's nothing wrong with Mononoke. It's probably my least favorite of the Ghibli films (though I haven't seen Earthsea, so maybe that'll be it), but it's still awesome.

Even if you have horrible taste in movies, if their primary involvement in this game is the animation you'd have to be stupid not to be excited, regardless of which of their films you've seen since they all look fantastic. Unless you just hate awesome things that look great.
