Level 5 developing PS3 and Wii titles photo

Ah, Level 5. I like those guys. I'd like them to make more games. Less portable ones would be nice. Oh, and U.S. releases would be fantastic. You know. Just whatever. If you're listening.

They are working on some Wii and PlayStation 3 games, though. Akihiro Hino, Level 5's president, said that his company has some PS3 and Wii titles in development at a company meeting. Of course, no names of titles were given. We'll have to wait until later this year. Maybe they'll have something at the 2010 Tokyo Game Show to put in their inexplicably large show floor booth.

We know that a sequel to White Knight Chronicles is coming to the PS3. Other than that, it's anyone's guess.

Speaking of White Knight Chronicles, I'm currently playing it for a Destructoid review. I didn't love it at first, but it has grown on me. Nothing fancy, but I'm enjoying it. Look for our review soon.

Still hoping for a Dark Cloud 3 from them.

Damn you Microsoft, if you hadn't treated Level 5 so shabbily during the True Fantasy boondoggle I could be playing Level 5 games on my 360.

Yes white knight is a solid rpg, I'm kinda wondering how it got those low scores I've seen at some places.

I have to say, I'm not excited. It seems like if Level 5 isn't making a game for Square Enix, they aren't trying as hard historically. I guess we could get another unlikely winner such as Layton.

Level 5's collaborations with Sony are never that exciting to me, WKC is just as dull and ininteresting as the Rouge Galaxy and Dark Cloud games were, but you get L5 on Dragon Quest or a Layton game and they're on fire.

So it looks like SE, DS and Wii games for me in the future from them. PS3 collaborations with Sony I'll remain skeptical of as they've bored me to tears thus far. Maybe one will surprise me eventually but Dark Cloud, Rouge Galaxy and WKC have not been among them.

@TSP, you my good sir, are a moron. Dark Cloud was amazing when it came out. And while I will agree WKC is a little bland, it is still fun and immersive, and isn't that what an RPG is about?

Ah, Dale! I'm glad that you will be reviewing the game; I was kind of insulted about the total silence there was on Destructoid following WKC Internationnal's release. The game also has grown on me, and I appreciate its Dark Cloudesque gameplay along with the new coop mode that works quite well. I'm not sure why the game has been underrated that way by reviewers around the big sites, I guess JRPGs aren't fashionnable anymore. But if you liked Dark Cloud 2 and Final Fantasy 12, there's no reason to not give this a try.

Hell, as long as they don't fuck up things to Spyborg (casual game in harcore disguise), minigame collections or shovelware levels i'll be happy.

Level 5 is my favorite developer not named Mistwalker. And contrary to consensus, I felt like Rogue Galaxy was in the upper echelon of gaming experiences on the PS2. Dudes know how to make a good RPG. I hope we get The Another World here in the states.

I'm quite enjoying WKC now. Running quests with friends online is great. I hope all JRPgs go with this idea to add a multi player function in single player games.

Well...

We know that one of the PS3 games is White Knight Chronicles 2...

And we know that one of the Wii games is Dragon Quest X...

So, that's two of 'em!

With all of the DS games they're woking on, could they possibly be working on any more than this? They don't have a huge dev team, do they?

@ Riegel88 :

RPGs are about which one? Being bland or being fun and immersive?

Dark Cloud 2 was amazing, my dad who's in his 70's played it after watching me play it, and it got him hooked. If dark cloud 3 were to come out, i'd buy it in a heartbeat.

i should have got wkc last weekend but got stormed in. getting it this weekend. i love level 5 and have hopes for a current gen dragon quest and dark cloud. they've hinted at a new dark cloud but i think they want to know how to really optimize the ps3 before they do. imagine a level 5 rpg with (near) uncharted2 graphics and engine optimization!

I cant wait for white knight chronicles 2. I loved the first one. At TSP i respect your opinion but I have to disagree with it. I have and i am not alone, there are many others as well who enjoyed all level 5 games. I will buy and play any game that they will release regardless on what console it is on.

I like white knight it's a 7 or 8 for me im done with the online quest yet the only thing I hate about the game is the voice acting so bad but u get use to it. The last jrpg I played was valkyria chronicles so nice to finally get another I got so bored playing fallout 3 and dragon age I just can't get into those RPGs im gonna be getting star ocean and ff13 even though it sounds like it's not an actual ff game.

Level 5 is one of those companies that seems to have turned to producing a bunch of cheap-looking titles instead of a few high-production titles. We probably have rising development costs to thank, but I'd still prefer it if they scaled things back and just made a few games that actually had decent polish and art direction...

Man, I REALLY hope it is DC3 on PS3. DC2 is one of my all-time favorite games. So is Rogue Galaxy btw. :)

I also hope they are doing DQX for the Wii, but I fear I recall that SE is doing the actual development themselves. Lousy SE.

Totally Agree with all the Dark Cloud 3 talk. I think DC2 is one of the best PS2 games ever made. There was SOOOO much content in it, it was like 10 games in one.

Just name it like "Dark Cloud: Something Something" so as not to make it seem unapproachable to new players.

DO IT, LEVEL 5! DO IT!

WKC is fun. Say whatever you want about how "good" it is or what not, but the bottom line is that if you and/or your friends enjoy JRPG's and enjoy grinding and item collecting, this game is very laid back and very enjoyable.

@ Bigmoose85

I wasn't impressed by what I saw of the game, independent of what the reviewer had to say. The art direction and story looked uninspired, and the MMO-ish combat looked boring. I can't believe the game was developed by the same people that brought us Prof. Layton, which just oozes character.

But to each his own, I guess.
