This reminds me of calling Dad in Earthbound. He might have been physically absent, but you could still sense he felt a solid bond with his son. Pokémon doesn't even have that... how odd.

I just always assumed the dad was dead. At least in the Ruby and Sapphire days, the dad was a Gym Leader... who lived out of town. Wait, what?
