It's been a very quiet year for the Wii, and while it sounds like the perfect time to throw out games such as The Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Xenoblade, Nintendo of America seems absolutely adamant in refusing to localize them.
Frustrated fans have therefore decided to take matters into their own hands, and have set up a snail mail campaign to bombard Reggie Fils-Aime with requests for these three games. The campaign got kickstarted in a nine-page IGN Boards thread where it's been met with healthy community support.
We've been equally irritated by the fact that these three games (Xenoblade is only confirmed for Europe) have failed to make it Stateside while the Wii grows stagnant. While there's no guarantee this will work, I admire gamers being proactive about it.
As well as the letters, people are also organizing Twitter promotions and banners. Copies of the letters being sent, and the address to send them too, have been posted below.
XENOBLADE:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item - miniature toy swords or cocktail swords
target date - July 11-13, 2011 (plan your letters to arrive around the 6th, not to ship on the 6th)
bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible
Dear Reggie,
As a fan of your company and of RPGs, I was extremely excited about the reveal of Monado which was later retitled Xenoblade. After it's reveal at E3 2008 it quickly became one of my most anticipated games for the Wii, and as more information, screens, and trailers were released my interest only expanded. I am deeply concerned that this game has no North American release planned, especially considering the sparse lineup on the wii in the next year. I have been a Loyal fan of this company for over 25 years, and yet there hasn't been a game worth getting on your console for nearly 8 months... and nothing on the horizon to be excited about besides Zelda, and yet Xenoblade sits completed, and soon to be localized for Europe in English. Please consider your company's fans, please bring Xenoblade to us.
Sincerely,
(your name here - signed)
THE LAST STORY:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item - a small book, a cover of a book, or the last page/chapter/epilogue of a book
target date - July 18-20, 2011 (plan your letters to arrive around the 13th, not to ship on the 13th)
bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible
Dear Reggie,
As a fan of your company and of RPGs, I was extremely excited about the reveal of the Last Story. Being a fan of Mistwalker and Hironobu Sakaguchi, it quickly became one of my most anticipated games for the Wii, and when the gorgeous art and impressive screens and trailers were released I only became more excited for the game. I am deeply concerned that this game has no North American release planned, especially considering the sparse lineup on the wii in the next year. I have been a Loyal fan of this company for over 25 years, and yet there hasn't been a game worth getting on your console for nearly 8 months... and nothing on the horizon to be excited about besides Zelda, and yet the Last Story sits completed. Please consider your company's fans, please bring the Last Story to us.
Sincerely,
(your name here - signed)
PANDORA'S TOWER:
write a polite letter, pointing out the need for the game
optional item - MEAT, preferably a dried meat such as Beef Jerky, Slim Jims, or Landjager (Hunter's Sausage)
target date - July 25-27, 2011 (plan your letters to arrive around the 20th, not to ship on the 20th)
bellow is a letter template, but feel free to write your own, just try to be polite if possible
Dear Reggie,
As a fan of your company and of games like Castlevania, I was extremely excited about the reveal of Pandora's Tower. From the initial cryptic reveal, to the delightfully twisted plot details that followed, I have been craving this game all year. I am deeply concerned that this game has no North American release planned, especially considering the sparse lineup on the wii in the next year. I have been a Loyal fan of this company for over 25 years, and yet there hasn't been a game worth getting on your console for nearly 8 months... and nothing on the horizon to be excited about besides Zelda, and yet Pandora's Tower sits completed. Please consider your company's fans, please bring Pandora's Tower to us.
Sincerely,

Reggie's going to get a few letters from me as well. :D
Because, from what we've been hearing, those from overseas and people who have imported them say they're all amazing games. Great epic games like that deserve to be released in other countries so that everybody can enjoy them. :)
It also saddens me a bit that no one seems to care that Solatorobo isn't making it to NA.
If you are a Nintendo fan primarily for it's first-party titles (Mario/Zelda/Star Fox/etc.), then they continue to feed that need. But going back to the original NES, Nintendo has always been an overtly domestic-audience focused company. Popular titles outside the territory don't always get sequels, and a lot of great titles stay in Japan.

YES!
Because they won't do that. If they do that it'll mean they'll have to put in the time and effort to do the same for the rest of the world, not just the US, and thats more man power then they'd be willing to spare (or even could) when they've got their new precious to think about.
Even if it was something they'd do we'd probably still have to wait 2 or more years (leaning towards more) for it because Nintendo would continuously find a reason to work on something else before it.
Why wont it work? Because NOA still thinks that its 1995 and that nobody in america plays rpg's.
Nintendo should port these over to the Wii U as launch titles. That's an awesome idea, right?
@Patrick Borelli
That is not the situation at all. Yes, the market is niche here in the states but to say that once it get over here it'll just get pirated? That's stupid. Because if we were all going to pirate it we don't need a US launch to do it. And to my knowledge at least one of these games has a (sloppy but useable) English patch already. So if everyone who wants this game was just going to pirate it then they'd start translating an stop petitioning. Which, granted, might be more effective but that doesn't excuse your irrational logic. Have a little faith in your neighbor.
That being said, I'm going to support this. This is a nice way to send Nintendo a message, but why stop there? If Nintendo's going to be at PAX this year, then bombard them there, too. We should do everything we can to get the message into Reggie's big, meatheaded skull.

As for the rest of you, get those letters done!
The only chance of getting something to happen is to get some more serious gamer weight on our side. For example, if Gabe and Tycho at Penny Arcade were to jump on the bandwagon with a strip or two about Nintendo, with a call to arms in their news section, and talking directly to Nintendo of America employees, then we *might* get... Well, even then we'd probably only get Reggie to come out and say that Nintendo wasn't releasing the titles in the US.
I can't remember, but didn't Fatal Frame at least get a "We don't think it fits the US Wii demographics"-style comment?
Nintendo seems intent on messing up their reputation with the core gamers.
As far as the games go: NoA really needs to release these titles in the US. The only game coming out for the Wii this year I can really think of that many people will have interest in is the next Zelda game, which is due out late this year. So there's a huge missing gap of any quality game (that I can think of) till then. Which is what I assume is going to be the same problem with the Wii-U.
See something they don't have and ask for it? I thought all fans acted that way.
All in favor for awesome Wii RPGs. Throw Earth Seeker in there too while we're at it.
