The team behind God of War: Ascension continues their behind-the-scenes look at Kratos's next adventure by showing us how Lead Concept Artist Izzy brought the Elephantuar to life. Izzy worked on a ton of different animal Minotaur crossover ideas, such as bears, rhinos, boars, and even a dragon. Eventually Izzy settled with the elephant, and he used a past experience with the creature to fuel his design.
Izzy details in the blog update that he had a bad run in with an elephant in Thailand that thought it would be hilarious to dunk him in the river Kwai multiple times. Izzy used this encounter to draw from his "suffering and humiliation to really make [the Elephantuar] an evil bastard."
The blog also has some concept art of what the Elephantuar looked like before Izzy settled on what we saw during the PlayStation press conference at E3.
I don't know about you, but I want God of War: Ascension to be filled with just monster versions of animals now. It'd be just like The Island of Dr. Moreau, except instead of teaching them to be human you're just kicking all their asses.
