The team behind God of War: Ascension continues their behind-the-scenes look at Kratos's next adventure by showing us how Lead Concept Artist Izzy brought the Elephantuar to life. Izzy worked on a ton of different animal Minotaur crossover ideas, such as bears, rhinos, boars, and even a dragon. Eventually Izzy settled with the elephant, and he used a past experience with the creature to fuel his design.

Izzy details in the blog update that he had a bad run in with an elephant in Thailand that thought it would be hilarious to dunk him in the river Kwai multiple times. Izzy used this encounter to draw from his "suffering and humiliation to really make [the Elephantuar] an evil bastard."

The blog also has some concept art of what the Elephantuar looked like before Izzy settled on what we saw during the PlayStation press conference at E3.

I don't know about you, but I want God of War: Ascension to be filled with just monster versions of animals now. It'd be just like The Island of Dr. Moreau, except instead of teaching them to be human you're just kicking all their asses.

Storm's Adventure with The God of War Anthology Part 3

A long time ago, I was convinced to play 4 God of War games, and I thought it would be a brilliant idea to split it into two videos, and, in essence, double the view count without much work. That was Part 1 and Part 2. ...more

God of War: Ascension patch nerfs hardest area of game

When God of War: Ascension came out, people seemed to forget that it was an action game, and occasionally may put up a fight. Much like the penultimate fight in the first God of War (against the Kratos clones), Ascension has ...more

God of War: Ascension single and multiplayer guide

God of War: Ascension has been giving a lot of people trouble over the past few days, but if you play your cards right, it doesn't have to be a difficult experience -- or, say, nearly as difficult as Metal Gear Rising. Like Onimusha and Devil May Cry before it, a lot of the game's edge can be taken off with careful planning of your weapon experience levels, and a few other tips along the way.more

Why I love The Last of Us multiplayer, in a nutshell

We're outnumbered, down to our last pair of lives. The clock is ticking, it's as much of a threat to my team's survival as the four armed men bearing down on our position. I don't like our chances, not one bit, but moments like this, they're the reason I play the game.more

I never thought Super Mario Bros. would make me so angry
