Leigh Alexander talks mature games and mature 'gamers'

8:30 AM on 10.12.2013

Almost 2 weeks ago on Sup Holmes (now on iTunes) we welcomed former Destructoid editor, Podtoid regular, and current essayist, satirist, and speaker Leigh Alexander to the program. She even teamed up with Jonathan Mann for a song about GTA V. Pretty adorable.

We talked with Leigh about how writing about games has changed over the years, ways that the new GTA could do better at "punching upwards", if videogames are becoming more inclusive, what it's been like to grow up along with gaming as a medium, and a lot more.

Thanks again to Leigh for appearing on the show. You're welcome back any time, as a guest or as guest host. Tune in tomorrow at 1pm PST/4pm EST when we welcome Ryan Vandendyck (Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Citizens of Earth) to the program. It's going to be spooktacular.

This animation captures GTA Online perfectly

You don't need to have played GTA Online to enjoy this animation by Jameserton, but it'll hit much closer to home if you have done so. It's funny, and I say that as someone who goes into these game parodies with a sometimes unreasonable amount of skepticism. That dramatic music during the bomb sequence? The best.more

This group recreated the Skyfall intro in GTA V

In the movie Skyfall, James Bond has a rather intense encounter on the top of a train in one of the very first scenes. It's a memorable moment in the film, and some people sought to re-create it in Grand Theft Auto V. Pretty...more
