LEGO Universe: Exclusive first pics? photo

If the Internet isn't the melting pot of lies that some would have you believe, then the guys over at iBricks.org have something new to show us in the form of an exclusive screen shot of the game in action, as well as what appears to be some conceptual art of the upcoming MMO from the house that Ronald LEGO built. I'll let the guys over at iBrick describe it to you, since they did such a good job:

The LEGO Group is working on a group of initiatives, which in the coming years will offer young and older LEGO fans all over the world new ways of play and experiences with the LEGO brand. The famous brick and the mini-figure will come to live in the virtual world.

The new LEGO Universe will combine gaming, building and the opportunity for social networking on the very same web page.

The whole development process is happening in tight synergy with the dedicated LEGO fans. The fans try out the ideas the professional game developers are creating.

According to the plans, the LEGO Universe will be to experience on-line for a larger group approx mid 2008.

Ultimately the LEGO Group want to offer the unique experience to play with the LEGO brick both virtually and physically together with your friends from all over the world, and you can even change from the physically to the virtual play as you like You are in control.

I'm the last person who would consider spending a monthly fee on an MMO, but the concept art certainly has at least piqued my interest in shelling out a few bucks when this game comes to fruition.

With LEGO Star Wars already a hit, LEGO Batman on the horizon, and now this, it's looking more and more like it is a good time to be a LEGO fan. That is, if you are not against playing what some might consider amounts to a children's game.

You can find the official press release here.

This would appear to be a perfect example of kick assery. Here's hoping that theres a lego "300" game on the way. That would truly be hilarious.

LEGO Creator 2007?

Lol. I loved lego creator. As broken as it was. But it would be chill to upload your own cars, buildings, etc, into a town.

There's already a multiplayer online lego game. Except it is literally that... you build legos and stuff online with people. It's pretty cool actually <.<'

Once again, this seems appropriate:

from the 3d picture, it seems like there will aliens from space, and an orange hazmat team to deal with them.

It takes place in the future...I'm guessing because of those two orange flying drones(property of the orange hazmat team?), and the buildings look like some attempt at futuristic buildings.

wow, those are some crazy legos...as far as the game, yeah it looks really cool, but still not enough to convince me to sell my soul and start playing MMO's

I wonder if it'll be as mind blowing as Lego Island and the stylin' of Kathleen N Right!

Is that a Beholder crashed on the ground? Or maybe I play too much D&D...

I thought it looked like a Beholder as well. But I'm a bit of a D&D addict myself...

I love Legos as much as the next 21 year old geek, but I'm still a bit hesitant. If they release a trial I'll be all over it. Otherwise I'm holding off until the reviews hit.

For some reason I can see a little bit of a Second Life angle put into this. Where a player can build their own house and such. What might suck about that though is that you'd have this elaborate skyscraper next to a dinky red Lego box. Or maybe just have the slums a bunch of simple buildings...Yeah if this is done the right way I think I've found an MMO that'll keep my attention.

Really, it all depends on how it's done.

If it's just a sims online/second life kinda thing, I'll pass.
If theres more to it, like I can build spaceships and cars and perhaps cars that go into space with missiles I can use to kill other players... now you have my attention.
