LEGO Minecraft set coming this summer, first pics are in photo

It's ... smaller than I thought it would be. The LEGO Minecraft Micro World (fitting name!) will be shipping this summer. The 480-piece set is being sold exclusively through Jinx for $34.99, and they're already taking orders. Seems expensive, but I suppose LEGO isn't exactly known for being cheap.

I have to say, the mini Creeper is probably the best part of this. If you're looking for more to go on, check out Mojang's silly video skit.

And now I want to buy five of them and build a treeless mountain. Darn you Lego, combining my favorite things into collector's items...

It's just regular bloody Lego. Not even anything special. Tiny thin pieces that aren't worth a damn to use in normal builds. Wow.

You might be thinking this is the most pointless thing ever but just wait until they make a video game based on lego minecraft.

Disappointing. The whole reason Minecraft Legos had me excited was the prospect of having minifigures of Steve and the mobs, but instead we just get even smaller block representations of them.Oh well. At least the commercial made me laugh.

Actually, considering the average Lego set in the 400-piece range is about $30-$35, this doesn't seem very expensive. Small, yes. It's very small compared to most sets with a similar amount of pieces.

...What can I say? I like Lego. I know these things.

Double post: I just measured exactly: that IS really small. It's 12x12 studs, which is about 4x4 inches. They don't have to use more bricks, but would it have killed them to used larger pieces?

I was looking forward to this LEGO set, but after seeing the pictures, I'm really disappointed. If they had made the pieces standard size/bigger and printed the actual pixelated textures on the blocks, THAT would be something cool. All we have here is a bunch of pre existing tiny pieces with a little block that looks like Steve and a Creeper. Seems like a wasted opportunity to do something really cool.

Already pre-ordered mine. I honestly don't mind giving money to LEGO and Mojang for this. Maybe if it's popular they'll make more of these!

Also, the set will be available in stores and on the LEGO online shop this summer, too.

Paroxysm: naninani: Yeah, fuck your s! Sure, it may be nit-picky to have a go at people saying "LEGOs", but dammit if they don't sound like someone's out-of-touch mother.

This is the most ridiculous, cash-grabbing bullshit I've seen in a while, and that's in an industry filled with DLC nonsense.

Why exactly does everyone think this guy is some nerd legend, again? Making a sandbox lego game and monetizing it in real-world swag any way he can.. ok, capitalism works when customers are idiots, fair enough. But then he cries about how Zenimax fighting his effort to trademark the overly-generic word "scrolls" in every possible marketing context imaginable is somehow Zeni-Goliath stomping on his Mojang-David?

The scrolls thing is obnoxious enough, but making legos out of a video game ripping-off legos is just douchbaggery. And you idiots will throw your money at him for it, LAWLZ.

@DasPooch Yeah, this wasn't really his idea. Assloads of fans were yelling for this. And it's a neat idea. After all, Minecraft was called Lego for the computer for ages. And considering that Mass Effect 3 is releasing DLC that you can get by buying a fancy Razer Keyboard, Mouse, or Headset. Those seem much more cash grabby than this by a long shot.

And the scrolls thing was Zenimax as much as it was Mojang, he wanted to make a game and "Scrolls" was a good descriptor of what the game was about, Zenimax got defensive of "Scrolls" as part of their "Elder Scrolls" trademark, rightfully so, and I'm pretty sure that Mojang is only trademarking scrolls in the Video Game context.
