If its a movie within the universe about different characters with some connection to the original games, that's fine.
Canonizing a world where parts the story and character relationships are determined by player choice? Not such a good idea.

Word on the street is that it will deal with the First Contact War, so Shepard should be sitting this one out.
Uhhh... I hope they don't try to mash the plots of the three games into one movie. On another token I'm tired of seeing these trilogy adaptations. Just doesn't seem like a great idea to me
since when I Am Legend and The Cell were bad movies? I Am Legend was amazing(aside from weird ending considering the book) and The Cell was a decent flick.
Poseidon? well yeah that was crap, but it was hilarious crap - i still remember how they were promoting the film by saying that Fergie was playing. she was on all posters, she was mentioned as one of the first "actors" in the opening sequence etc. - in the end, she was seen for maybe 20seconds, had one line and was killed off-screen. i was laughhing my ass off when i saw this.

First Contact war with Anderson could be good, maybe a mention of Shepard on Torfan (Though that'd canonize a choice and I'm incredibly tired but I remember that being incredibly early, too). Honestly, now that I think about it, if a series was produced, just movies with Anderson could be good, though a bit put off by lack of his legendary voice. Could even have a Training Day-esque movie with Saren and the infamous plant explosion.
If they make a movie that is just an adaptation of the first game, I don't fare how awesome and epic it is, I have zero interest in seeing it. Canonizing something where player choice is so important is just not appealing to me. If they made a movie in the same universe but a separate story, now there would be something I'd go see. I guess they haven't announced anything so we don't know for sure, but it seems pretty widely assumed it's the first movie :\
I'll tell you all what was a great movie the Poseidon Adventure is what! It had Earnest Borgnine, Gene Hackman and Yes Pamela Sue Martin! Nuff said.
Although I hope, hope, hope this will be awesome, this will only lead to bad things. I mean come on, it's a video game movie...
I thought the First Contact War thing was for the animated feature. There are two movies coming out, heard it from the man Casey Hudson himself. The two movies part. I was almost positive they'd been saying that Matthew Fox was hired on to play the Shep-man. works for me. Regardless, Ali D is right, I love Mass Effect (duh), but VG movies tend to suck old man balls. Mortal Kombat was okay IMO, tho.
Tyler Berg, they'll probably follow the default path (start ME2 without loading an ME1 save, not on PS3), which is Renegade all the way. I'd rather see Paragon (makes more sense as a savior of the galaxy to me, but whatevs) myself, but if they have a whole bunch of BioWare guys writing/editing the script and stuff (and if Drew Karpyshyn, or at least Mac Walters, lead the story) I imagine it will be at least... decent.

A faithful adaptation would be a compelling space opera followed by a Michael Bay sequel with chest high walls.

If you understood the meaning of the book at all you'd know the movie was ass. Funny that even with the same title the film still failed to get it. The omega man was a far better version .
