What's it going to take to get more people interested in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword? It's already getting rave reviews, has a reported +100 of potential gameplay, and more new features than a Zelda game has seen in years. Still, that doesn't seem to be enough to get certain disenchanted gamers interested. It certainly isn't because the game lacks sky. Maybe it lacks rim? I'm not sure.
Well, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata isn't going to take the situation lying down. He's got a new interview up about the game to spread the word of its wonders, complete with a video featuring never before seen wonders. There is first person bug hunting, mushrooms, maps, and a giant muppet thing. Seriously, this behemoth is HUGE! It's toes are about shoulder height on Link. And you can smack those toes around if you want! Smack 'em hard!
I can't wait to smack dem toes come November 20th.

Honestly, the gamers who aren't interested are the ones who are already anti-Nintendo douchebags in the first place. Nothing is gonna change their douchebaggery. As for me it's a day 1 buy and I'll surely play it a heck of a lot more than I'll play Skyrim.
I been on a media blackout with these game for a while now, I cant wait to be surprise when I play it. It's amazing though how Nintendo is hell bent on spoiling the whole damn game!! Seriously, how much more can Nintendo spoil already for fuck sakes???!!?
I'm pretty excited about the game, but the pessimist on here are definitely making "what if" situations jump around in my head. While I have hope for Skyward Sword, there are definitely ways that this game could go wrong. Hence the "what if" situations.
I haven't seen anybody hate on this for anything other than motion controls (other than Max), so people will probably come back around for HD Link.
I personally can't get excited for Skyrim because all Elder Scrolls games are crappy until they've had 2 years of PC mods applied to them. They have also all had TERRIBLE combat. Hopefully that isn't the case this time, but Zelda games have definitely been more consistently high caliber. The genres are quite different though, even if they appear similar on the surface. Zelda games aren't truly open world because sections are locked off to you until you get items etc, Skyrim you can go anywhere and do anything right from the get go, but that lack of focus alienates some players while being lauded by others.
I never did figure out if Wii Motion Plus is required for this. I assume so because of all the features they were touting, but I really hope not because I'm not buying new controllers.
Gamers that bitch about Wii motion plus are annoying. you douchers probably bought KINECT when it was all the rage for that 2 week period. LOL
This game looks fucking magical. I'm canceling my SKYRIM pre-order. I'll just borrow it later on. My time is devoted to dark souls, and the upcoming uncharted 3 and THIS!!!!!!
U guys should review SKYLANDERS. Just found out about it tonight. Looks interesting, especially for the 3DS.
Holmes please don't turn this into a Skyrim vs Zelda argument. I know you're not a troll, and you're just making a suggestion for discussion, but I'm getting tired of having every game/console pitted against one-another. It usually leads to an all out flame war and people ignoring one amazing game over another for silly reasons. I'm just a peaceful guy who likes to play video games, I don't enjoy deciphering which one I think is better than another.
-This game has wider appeal than Twilight Princess
-The motion controlled Wii version of Twilight Princess sold almost triple the amount of the GameCube version.
-Zelda has a large appeal to "casual" gamers as well
-The 25th anniversary celebration has heavily been promoting Skyward Sword, and stuff like the free 4 Swords giveaway is making Zelda fresh in many people's minds.
-Sales of Ocarina 3D are very good, and it is currently the best selling game on the system.
-The Wii install base is huge, and WM+ has been bundled with every console since May 2010
-Even if this game sold poorly Nintendo cares way too much about the franchise to abandon it.
-As a fan of the series we shouldn't concern ourselves with sales, and only on the quality of the game.
-Every copy has a soundtrack which was a strategy that helped boost Oot sales.
-For $20 more you can get the game bundled with a special edition controller. The combination of special controller, and that Wii Play which was bundled with a controller is one of the systems best selling games is a possible indication that sales may be good.
I don't even need another controller, but I think I'm going to splurge for it at only $20 more. I think this game will sell well, and at the very least sell better than Twilight Princess, and even if it didn't so long as Nintendo doesn't abandon the series (which they won't) I'm not going to lose any sleep over sales.
"What's it going to take to get more people interested in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword?"
i don't think that is possible! But only after people see other people playing it!
the game looks awesome, has amazing music, a great feel to it, the gameplay is stellar, and there are so many hours of it in there, the swinging mechanics are great and the critics have already started praising it! it seems to me.. this can very well be the new Ocarina of Time.
I cancelled my UK preorder of this so that I could get the gold Wiimote with it locally in South Africa. Now no one seems to be able to confirm the South African release date. I'm living in a constant state of worry that I'm going to have to wait even longer for it. I can't remember the last time I was so excited for a game.
@scissors - I'm shocked the Wii version sold only three times as many, considering how small the ratio between the two condos are. I'd say that's an impressive feat for conventional controls.
Its kinda funny. By the time Nintendo actually uses that wiimote as more than a simple gimmick for one of its games is the time I realize it was just that; a gimmick.
I dunno, as long as it supports button controls as well as waggle I think it will be okay.
Toe smacking good! Seems like zelda is getting a way more atmospheric / epic treatment this time , it also seems more thought is poured into it too with all of its nifty features
The game is going to be AMAZING.It'd be nice if more people got hyped for it, Holmes, but you have to remember it's the big game holiday release period, in which you'll have Skyrim and Uncharted 3. Plus Arkham City released just last week! Plus I think there is a lot of people who just have Zelda fatigue - not me, but there are people who are fed up of Zelda due to them using similar themes and mechanics from game to game. So when Skyward Sword releases and promises a bunch of new features and improvements, I just don't think people believe it. Still, I think Edge giving it a 10/10 helps the game's cause, as they're normally very harsh critics.
I'm going to buy me all the games in the Sky Triumvirate, since they all look fun and are all massively different. But seriously,Skylanders is VERY fun,and the whole figure gimmick is very appealing to me,Skyrim is going to be the sexy open world RPG I need in my life and Skyward Sword is going to be Zelda gaming bliss with a side of HNNG.
Man,this holiday season is going to bleed me dry with all the awesome games coming out.
@scissors

I will buy both Skyrim and Skyward Sword. November is going to be awesome.
The reason people continuously feel compelled to compare two completely different games is because they are in a position where they can only afford to own one (for a while at least). I can sympathize with this; the economy is pretty shitty, plus a lot of gamers are still pretty young. When you can only get one game, it becomes important to many people to justify their choice. Don't want to feel you spent your money on the wrong one! Have to show all them jerks on the Internet that your choice is correct! This is the root of all fanboy flamewars, whether it's for games or game consoles. It's sad, really.
Why should they be surprised? Nintendo of America has written off the Wii by refusing to localize titles wanted by people to against all odds, still give enough of a crap to be able to get angry over it. This is a problem of Nintendo's making, just like the 3DS.

I'm tired of the people aren't as hyped for Skyward Sword as past Zelda's meme. What proof for that do you have exactly other than you say so? Also Skyward Sword and Skyrim are completely different games so your comparison is invalid.

I was just joking about the Skyrim Vs. Skyward Sword implication guys! It's like pitting Street Fighter against Street Hoops. The joke is that the only thing they have in common is the name.
Yes, there in lies the joke!
I think llort het got it though.
And Capatain Howdy, how can you not like playing with nunchucks? Look how awesome it is!
Gah. I kinda want this really badly, but there's sooooo much coming out this holiday...Definitely Jan or Feb, when my finances recover a little. Also, I would sell my soul for a futuristic Zelda, where the "Legends" were but distant memories...
I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I've bought every Zelda game since Ocarina of Time, but I'm still disappointed that this game doesn't have the option for traditional controls... The combat just looks awkward.
@Zaheer That's because it does look terrible on an HD display. And I've purchased every Nintendo system until the Wii because I hate the motion controls. I've played several times on friends systems and I just don't understand the love for it. (I want to though, I really do)
I just can't get into playing the Japanese equivalent of a preschool cartoon show, anymore. The same re-used music with it's oversimplified style, low-fi cartoony art direction that makes World of Warcraft look like BF3, no voice acting to give life to the otherwise puppet-style characters... meh.

Also, Hahaha @ llort het. I do also want Skylanders...
Oh yes, they don't like a game you like, they must be douchebags.

Nintendo announced this game will require MotionPlus years ago. Wtf.

Yes, exactly. That's how the whirled works. Have you not noticed?
I feel I made a pretty good argument last time the sales of Skywards Sword were brought up. http://www.destructoid.com/the-incredibly-immersive-world-of-zelda-skyward-sword-214176.phtml So I'm not going to repeat my whole argument I'll just make some bullet points
-This game has wider appeal than Twilight Princess

Just saying.
PS. Gotsa lovem those Zeldas!
It doesn't. If it did I'd be all over this game.
twilight princess crushed oblivion even with 100 re releases.
I can't wait for both!
But mostly Skyward Sword :p
Man,this holiday season is going to bleed me dry with all the awesome games coming out.
