It's been a long time since we last heard anything about the fan made Legend of Zelda movie. Well after a few years in the works, The Legend of Zelda: Hero of Time is finally out! The epic adventure is about two hours long and the full movie is up above for your viewing pleasure.
I got to about the ten-minute mark before my A.D.D. kicked in and WWTDD took my attention away. I'm sure the lot of you have a lot more patience than me though. What do you think of the film? Think a Hollywood movie could do a good Zelda movie?
Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Honestly, this was pretty bad. I know they tried hard and there was at least a decent amount of respect for Zelda, but the actors were completely awful. And why is Link speaking?
The octopus chase was the best part of the entire movie. Me and my friend were freaking out when it happened. And when the goron came out and it was a fat asian dude, we laughed so hard. And what about the fact that ganondorf was like sparkly and fat in the very end?
either way this thing was horrible. The only redeeming quality is how terrible it is.
Are these people serious? What the fuck is this shit? The fake IGN Zelda trailer was more convincing than this abomination. I can't believe they wasted almost three hours making this crap.
This is fan made. It's even below the level of indie. They're not professional actors, what kinds of expectations did you have? For what it is, I think it's a valiant effort. Especially since I assume they won't be making any money off it. So far I've only watched the first 22 minutes of it, and it's not terrible. I don't see how you could complain about a free movie.
I could be wrong about some of this though, since this is the first I've heard about a Zelda fan movie.
Oh, and OoC is stupid. It's totally old and uncool. None of the cool kids like it anymore. rite guise! [/obligatory bitter sarcasm]
Just... just go watch Legend. With Tom Cruise. That was actually a really good movie that came out around the same time as the first Legend of Zelda game and are really similar.
Well, I tried to watch it. I did. Terrible. The acting is bad (something you don't need money for), the script is bad (something you don't need money for), and it seems like the only thing that qualifies them as having "respect" for the source work is that they obviously played Ocarina of Time.
But again, it's terrible. After about five minutes, I realized how terrible it was and just started skimming through. It doesn't get any better. However, it's worth fast forwarding to 81 minutes in because it's obvious they wanted to turn it into a live-action Zelda porno but resisted the urge. Worth a laugh.
Good for them for trying, but whatever. It's indie and it's low budget, but it's still crap.
It does seem to get progressively worse. I think I'll still watch the second half eventually, despite how bad it is, just because I'm a big fan of Zelda. Hopefully it gets better.
Why? Why??? Whhhhyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!??
What is wrong with these people? I don't care how low their budget is, or how 'hard' they tried, this is the most dickish thing you could ever do to LoZ or any fan. Why do they butcher something they love so much? Why? What kind of malcontent person came up with this MEAN idea? This is NOT FUNNY.
If only they would say they know full well that it is this bad and sincerely apologise for leading us to believe they were being serious, and how it is a joke for them. Then they can be let off the hook.
@Monodi rofl so true
This film suffered from terrible actors, unlikable characters and a terrible story that was supposed to be loosely based on OOT but just came across as a confused attempt at recreating it
Hahaha! Bad sound mix, bad edits, bad shots, bad acting, terrible accents. Was gannondorf played by Biff from Back to the Future? The music wasn't too bad though. I'd like to know what the budget was.
You know, if you wanna make a jet and all you have is rubber bands, that's when you call it quits.
Making Link speaks devalued his character. He was always known as the silent antagonist and is destined to fulfill his destiny. Having link go through those awkward moments in the movie was just brutal to watch.
Also, you can't sum up the entire game in 2 hours lol. People will leave unsatisfied by not seeing a part in the game that they found memorable. I personally enjoyed all those scenes where Sheik says something cool and teaches link a song. I saw nothing amazing in the movie.
And combat scenes were dumb. The creators + actors + anyone funding this movie should be shot.

Secondly, it's obvious that a lot of effort and time went into this. I feel like the screenplay could've been improved upon, and the acting was laughable at times... I literally lol'd at "Do it for me." and I kept thinking that Saria (who was Link's mom for some reason) was going to make out with him. They should've had young Link and Zelda be, ya' know, young. The pacing was a bit off as well... less of the stuff in the beginning and more of the dungeons would've been nice.
On the other hand, I thought that the music was really well done and that the premise was fairly solid considering they were taking a game that is at least 5 and half hours long and condensing it into a respectable hour and forty minutes.
tl;dr: Despite it's flaws, it's a decent flick (taking into consideration it's source) that respect the mythos it's reinterpreting. You guys are being too harsh.
The fight scenes, though, are actually well done (with some exception). I actually thought the sword fighting looked a lot more realistic and physical than the crap hollywood gives us where you can't even tell what is going on it's such a mess of dark blurs and shaky cam.
So the actors weren't the greatest, it lacked some really sick special effects, and the story was a bit different, but this was really great after all. I don't think it could have been any better unless it had a holly wood budget behind it. This director seems to have a better vision of what The Legend of Zelda is really about. Kudos!

NEVER
Yeah I can't take this seriously.
Though, I doubt Hollywood would do any better.
The difference is the IGN one actually was a joke and looked way much more promising. This one has nothing to do with it.

And here my I was looking forward to gettin' my nerd on.
Amen brother.
This is an abomination. Uwe would be proud.

Is this what one calls a C-movie?
