Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver coming to PSN photo

Oh ESRB, you never fail to delight with your game release spoilers. Yes, once again America's game rating board has spilled the beans on a PSOne Classic, rating Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver for release on the PS3 and PSP. One of the most fondly regarded action games of two generations ago will finally be available for download in the PlayStation Store.

A sequel to the vampire-friendly Legacy of Kain, Crystal Dynamics' Soul Reaver tells the story of Kain's son Raziel, who has a problem with his old man due to the fact that he killed him. It's a dark and brutal game that garnered considerable praise upon release, and is still held up as a fine example of the genre today.

Yep, can't wait for this one!

It's good to see that Sony is finally paying more attention to their oft-neglected North American PSOne offerings on PSN.

I'd still like more classic RPGs like Xenogears and Arc the Lad, but, hopefully, that will come with time.

Here's to a PS4 with full backwards compatibility (I hope Sony realizes how important this is).

Did anyone ever buy the first game to see if they fixed the loading times?

The lead writer for the Legacy of Kain series, Amy Hennig, is releasing her lastest creation, Uncharted 2. Respect the origins.

What ever happened to this series? I want closure!

The game are not that amazing, but the story (if you can get your head around it) and especially Kain and Raziel's VA and dialogue are utterly brilliant.

Hope this will come to the EU PSN store too. I have no desire to have to set up an NA account, but Blood Omen hasn't come out on the EU store yet, in spite of coming out on the NA store on 10 September, and there is no mention if it will or won't. Instead all the EU PSN store seems to get in way of PSOne classics are mediocre disney licenses. Little Mermaid anyone?

@Zantetsuken
For me, that's almost true. It's not the best game ever (I needs me some RPG elements, not simple item/ability collection through boss battles), but it's a must buy.

@The Young Scot
They actually had quite a few games. 2 Soul Reavers: 2 Kain games: and one final mash-up with both that brings closure.

They did finish the series. They had Soul Reaver I on PSOne, Soul Reaver II on PS2, and Soul Reaver: Defiance on PS2 and XBOX.

So the best game in the series will be up for download. Thanks Sony for finally showing us some love.

I hope they make a new one. This is one of the best franchises ever, imo. I've had so much fun, really awesome story and gameplay.

YES! Finally one of the best games ever made is seeing a digital release :) I know theres been some issues with the writer or something but its a tragedy to gaming a current gen version hasn't been made. they have some of the best graphics and voice acting during its time.

After buying tomb rider II I was put off PSOne games, because they don't even get enhanced resolution, the result is a pain to watch. Any retarded emulator can output greater resolutions for the polygons, but Sony won't do it on it's own hardware. It boggles the mind

@CBunn - do they really not have enhanced resolution? I've been playing through FFTactics, and that looks GORGEOUS compared to PS1 graphics...

I like the direction in which ESRB evolved - games with "Blood, Crude Humor, Mild Language, Sexual Themes, Use of Alcohol and Tobacco, Violence" get a 13+ rating. In ten years stuff like the original Mortal Kombat will be rated E :-p

It's about damn time. I've been looking for a reason to replay the series, despite still owning all of my original copies (just too damn lazy to drag out the systems).

don't they have rights to dreamcast games now? the dreamcast version of this games is miles better. no collision detection problems and the graphics were awesome on the dreamcast.

I've been hoping for this game since I picked up blood omen a few weeks ago and loved every second of it. I also went out and bought the other three for 25 dollars CDN. So as soon as this comes out, it's a full week of Legacy of Kain blood sucking soul reaving awesomeness.

It really can't be said enough how great Soul Reaver is. The story behind that whole series is just spectacular. Glad to hear it will reach a wider audience hopefully.

Oh and even though I loved the 1/4 of a game this was, I didn't mention that the ending made me so mad that I refused to buy another sequel and so have suffered the fate of not knowing the rest of the story. :(

Blood Omen was my favorite game on ps1 for a long time too!

Did the sequel to this game start back exactly where this one left off?

The Legacy of Kain series is ridiculously underrated. Loved them all. Just got Blood Omen off PSN and love it again, just wished they'd have fixed the load times. I'd kill for a current gen Kain game.
