The Java4K competition is an annual competition between programmers to create games in Java that are no more than 4kb in size. The competition began back in 2002 and the 2009 tournament started up just last month. There are a number of 4kb games already in the tournament, but the one that is making the rounds on the gaming blogs at the moment is Left 4k Dead by Markus Persson.
The game is inspired by
Valve’s Left 4 Dead and sees the player fighting off an endless horde of zombies as they try to escape the level. There is no sound, but the lighting in the game is pretty amazing considering that this is just under 4kb in size.
I get to about 400 points before I give up, as I can’t find the exit. Give the
game a try for yourselves and post your scores in the comment. How many points can you get?

Hamza Aziz, Destructoid's Community Director, has been here since day one. He was born when a tiger coughed up a hairball into a pool of ooze. He was one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles before budget cuts. Hamza works as a previews editor and manages a team in San Francisco. To date he has given away tens of thousands of dollars in prizes to readers. What a dick. Actually, Hamza is as kind as he is hairy.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
My only issue is the placement of the reload key. It makes sense that it's "R" for "reload" but it feels a bit awkward reaching from WASD to reach it. Of course, that could also be a conscious design choice to simulate the challenge of reloading under pressure but I still think I'd rather have it mapped to the right mouse button.

@bluemeep - I'm running this on my work machine and using Safari - I should be having issues, not you. Weird!
Also: 17. I am a manly beast.
