I don't know about you, but I am anxiously awaiting the chance to live out my fantasies of cooperative zombie survival in Left 4 Dead. Unfortunately, it seems as though there's something of a delay happening.
Originally slated for a November 4th release, Valve president Gabe Newell stated in an interview at Leipzig that the game will be available a little bit later than that. The wait time isn't significantly increased, however, as he says the game will be hitting stores on the 20th instead. Why wait the extra couple of weeks? Vanity, it seems. November 20th of this year marks the tenth anniversary of Half-Life.
You can watch a video of the interview here, where Gabe is also asked about Valve's partnership with EA, the buyout rumors and the future of the Steam engine. The clip also features footage of Newell playing Left 4 Dead with what seems to be another Valve employee. There isn't anything really new to witness on that end but I have yet to grow weary of watching this game being played.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Consider that Gears of War 2 comes out the week after L4D was supposed to come out. Now it all makes sense. Somewhat.
Why would anyone release their game the week before Gears of War? Then again, why would anyone release their game only 11 days later?
I think the Half-Life anniversary thing certainly has something to do with it, but I think they also believe sales will be better AFTER Gears has already sold it's first 2 million copies.
I know I'll be buying it first week now, instead of waiting a while.
Steam is completely different, a game doesn't go out of production on steam, it's highly viable to keep advertising a game even after it's release, and a Steam-Lifetime is many times longer than a normal lifetime.
I think it's mainly because it's Valve. On the 19th they'll say "Sorry, it'll be here... soonish"
This is my mantra that I will repeat until it comes out.
But the 360 version wouldn't stand a chance against Gears.
Then again, I never think of the 360 when saying these things ^_^;
But in all honesty, I've already waited this long. I don't mind waiting a BIT more. I mean, it IS Valve.
"Oh, dear me, this options menu just won't do. DELAY THE GAME UNTIL IT IS SLIGHTLY ADJUSTED!"
Also, who would choose Gears over L4D?
Oh that's right. 360 owners. NVM.
There will be cake.
AND SANDVICHES.
