Unsure about which system you should buy Left 4 Dead for? Now that the system requirements for the PC version are floating around the net, that decision may become painfully obvious for those with ancient computers.
OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive
HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space
VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
SOUND: Direct X 9.0c compatible sound card
Major props should be given to the Source engine once again for allowing the system specs to be as low as they are, but what's up with the hefty amount of HDD space required for installation? Where are we supposed to stash our porn now!?
Still can't make up your mind on the old console vs. PC debate? You've got until November 18 to decide.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
If not, I'll just get it for consoles, no big deal.
Which reminds me, I have to delete my World of Warcraft install.
The specs are very manageable though. I <3 the Source engine.
:/
Then again, I'll probably get it for 360 since most of my friends have a 360.
AMD 64x2 4600+ (2.4GHZ I think)
320mb 8800 GTS
PC is where it's at!
I've been thinking about a full upgrade to a quad core with SLI graphcis cards but $2k is alot to spend....
I probably won't pick this up since they are not supporting the PS3 at all. Zombie Masters is already like this game anyway and is a free mod.
Quick note though they removed Zombie Masters from their list of free mods, curious isn't it?
Damn :(
I wasn't talking about mods, I was mainly talking about user made maps. (I.E. TF2 360 has 6 maps, for PC I have the 18 official ones + over 50 custom ones)
-YAY!
-I can run this shit!!!
-Can´t wait for zombies
-Wohooo
-kayboard and mouse I am gonna put a babie inside you
-YIPIEEE, let´s get naikiiiid.
-Paris Hilton is a whore
I feel alone in this party
"Zombie Masters is already like this game anyway and is a free mod."
Really? I respectfully disagree.
In other news, my comp with rape this, let's kill zombies, etc.
Hah! Mere peanuts to a my PC's caliber
If these are the minimums though, they aren't quite so nice, especially that 256 MB Video Memory requirement. There are many PC gamers on 128 MB of Vram currently, especially those on laptops.
On the other hand, when these were posted at Left4dead411.com, they were accompanied by a cropped picture of the requirements on what appeared to be the back of a retail copy of the game, which is mighty hard to argue against (unless it's concept art or a shoop).
So who knows!
I know right.
some where...just cant quite put your finger in it.
Snickering at the 360 guys?
... 7.5 gb isn't much comparing to other games that have been released in past 18 months...
... Check out the ms flight sim x ... now that game takes up some HDD space...
Oh crap my hard drive's only 50 gigs... what do I do you guys?
Shit.
I am here to tell you folks that the specs are WRONG!
And here is why...
My system:
Compaq Presario S3040SE (Motherboard is original)
Intel Pentium 4, 2.4Ghz (Not a "Core Duo" processor - original)
1.5G DDR RAM
ECS GeForce 8400GS 512MB PCI video card
300G Hard drive (game is on the 99.9G XP partitions
Windows XP SP3
When I installed the game, it did NOT take 7.5G free space... it only used 2.5G
I don't know where they ever get their specs requirements but they have almost always been WRONG.
Many of the games that say that high specs are necessary are incorrect because my system runs them just fine.
