Left 4 Dead's system specs have arrived photo
     Left 4 Dead

Unsure about which system you should buy Left 4 Dead for? Now that the system requirements for the PC version are floating around the net, that decision may become painfully obvious for those with ancient computers.

OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
DISC DRIVE: DVD-ROM Drive
HARD DRIVE: At least 7.5 GB of free space
VIDEO: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
SOUND: Direct X 9.0c compatible sound card

Major props should be given to the Source engine once again for allowing the system specs to be as low as they are, but what's up with the hefty amount of HDD space required for installation? Where are we supposed to stash our porn now!?

Still can't make up your mind on the old console vs. PC debate? You've got until November 18 to decide.

If there's a PC demo, I'll see how it runs on my system (I have 2.8 Ghz P4, but a nice graphics card, so it MAY still work).

If not, I'll just get it for consoles, no big deal.

Wow, 7.5 gigs? That's almost as large as my World of Warcraft install.

Which reminds me, I have to delete my World of Warcraft install.

The specs are very manageable though. I <3 the Source engine.

i have a terribyte in my machine, I'm not worried about the 7.5 gig install especially considering sims 2+ expansions is over 13.5 gig

Are these suppose to be the minimum, or the recommended specs?
:/
Then again, I'll probably get it for 360 since most of my friends have a 360.

I just squeak by, yay!

AMD 64x2 4600+ (2.4GHZ I think)
320mb 8800 GTS

PC is where it's at!

I've been thinking about a full upgrade to a quad core with SLI graphcis cards but $2k is alot to spend....

@moocow21 uH just so you know this is based off the source engine, meaning their are already mods using the source engine. So why even bring it up if you already own any other source game.

I probably won't pick this up since they are not supporting the PS3 at all. Zombie Masters is already like this game anyway and is a free mod.

Quick note though they removed Zombie Masters from their list of free mods, curious isn't it?

I seriously don't know what platform to get this for. With the PC I'm pretty much guaranteed to get frequent and free updates but it won't run as well as I'd like. But on the 360 I have a few friends who will be buying it and its guaranteed to run good but the updates probably wont be free.

Damn :(

@Volomon

I wasn't talking about mods, I was mainly talking about user made maps. (I.E. TF2 360 has 6 maps, for PC I have the 18 official ones + over 50 custom ones)

I'm pretty sure these are the RECOMMENDED requirements, and not the MINIMUM ones. These are right in line with the recommended of the Orange Box games, which Valve have previously stated Left4Dead would be similar to, requirements-wise. Another bit of possible evidence is the way they write the CPU requirement: "CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)" This isn't a minimum, but a baseline for recommendation.
If these are the minimums though, they aren't quite so nice, especially that 256 MB Video Memory requirement. There are many PC gamers on 128 MB of Vram currently, especially those on laptops.

On the other hand, when these were posted at Left4dead411.com, they were accompanied by a cropped picture of the requirements on what appeared to be the back of a retail copy of the game, which is mighty hard to argue against (unless it's concept art or a shoop).

So who knows!

@Grim:

... 7.5 gb isn't much comparing to other games that have been released in past 18 months...
... Check out the ms flight sim x ... now that game takes up some HDD space...

Yeah, and im pretty sure if you have the Orange Box a large portion of that 7.5 g will already be on your computer (similar to TF2.)
