Left 4 Dead PC patch should be out this week as Valve explains the delay photo

After the Xbox 360 got its anti-exploit update a while ago, PC fans of Left 4 Dead have been left waiting for their update and wondering why there's a wait. Responding to expectations of simultaneous patching on the 360 and PC, Valve has stated that game fixes will be released independently, and that a PC-specific delay was no reason to hold back the 360 update.

"For the patching, the real key is to patch more often and not wait for everything to accumulate," stated Valve's Chet Faliszek. "Because of a perfect storm of events, this patch got larger than we would have liked and that really snowballed the time it is taking.

"The problem on the PC side was a few large bugs affected other systems that we were going to rewrite on the PC so we ended up waiting to fix a whole class of bugs instead of just individual bugs. The patch should be out this week.

"Sadly Microsoft has nothing to do with the PC patch... that delay is all us. The PC and 360 will be patched independently, not sure where people picked up that exploit/bug fixing was tied together. Only the DLC will be simultaneous."

So there you go. No conspiracies or anything are afoot. Now let us all wait for this DLC and prepare to happily give Valve more of our money.

I still hope that the PC DLC will be free, just like TF2´s DLC was.

wilbo: I think the update for the 360 was more about exploits that involved spawning thirty witches. I know it didn't fix things like the generator exploit. Maybe it isn't one, and Valve just felt like being cunts.

The holidays are over. The advertising dept. was supposed to announce the DLC. I know the game just came out, but I'd at least like to know what it's going to be and when we're going to get it.

Don't expect anything big. I suspect it's just patching up the few exploits that are left.

About time, L4D on PC is losing players fast because of the annoying exploits.

I'd hope for some more levels than Dead Air and Death Toll Versus mode it shure took Valve some time.

BTW
I'd love some change to make cowardclosets/corners impossible (or harder). It's simply not funny to defend there, or attack such a "position". Def just press "shove" and wait for last zombie to die with head smashed by the butt of the rifle.

I even thought about 2 ways to do that, maybe I'll send Valve guys a suggestion ;)?
Smoker might get extra attack - after realeasing tongu u'd press claw attack and his togue would explode in thick smoke-screen. Smoker would be left with claws only after this. Smoke would do constant damage to everyone in it, but with a delay, so humans could just move few meters and don't care about it any longer. However it would deny them some little part of map for long enough to make corners/closets less efficient.

Other way to deal with it would be limit shoving. After, say 10 successful shoves you'd get exhauset. Also "successful" would be for shoving a friend too, so in tight closet it would go down pretty fast and in normal game rather rarely.

BTW Ofcourse I hope PC gets free patch...
but ...
with this game Valve has my monies whatever they release.

@ Satsumomo
You sure it isnt because the game is super short and repetative?

Jeez. PC gamers have to wait for the 360 content to be approved by Microsoft before they get their DLC? Lame ass shit.

DLC should have been independent as well. Now I have to suffer through that awful approval process.

your reading comprehension is poor and you need to go back to 1st grade. PC gamers don't have to wait for shit, they were delayed because of bugs. valve is releasing the PC stuff on its own because of that.

I don't feel the game is broken. I'm still pissed that we PC gamers have to wait for M$ to finish their "quality assurance" bullshit so that we can get the extra content. This was a very bad move on Valve's part. Holding out on their key customers just so the console fools won't feel inferior. THEY WOULD GET THE UPDATE EXACTLY THE SAME TIME THEY ARE NOW! Why should WE have to wait?

I can think of at least 50 different ways you could've said that without sounding like an absolute fucking cockhole.

I wasn't commenting on the main story, imbecile.

You're also gravely mistaken. It isn't I who needs a lesson in comprehension, half wit. I said nothing about the patches. I know patches for the PC version of L4D are released when Valve is ready.

Perhaps you should have read the following quote that is in the damn story:

"Sadly Microsoft has nothing to do with the PC patch... that delay is all us. The PC and 360 will be patched independently, not sure where people picked up that exploit/bug fixing was tied together. Only the DLC will be simultaneous."

I was talking about the real DLC content being released on the same date for both PC and 360. The XBOX 360 has a certification process for all content that is released on the console. If they're going to be released on the same date, then this means the PC content will be sitting out while we wait for Microsoft's god awful cert process.

It's nice to think about things before you hit the "add comment" link. Try it sometime.
